anyways restaurants come and go

family in town from half way around the world

money is not an issue

cheap or expensive and everything in between

thai and international

anything you think should not be missed?

I would say that if you want to take them somewhere original then try the Thai buffet steamboat place on South Rd, one block beyond Third Rd.

180B per person, plus drinks. Tasty, fun, good value (and also unusual if you come from half-way round the world). The ingredients are all Thai but if anyone doesnt like spicy things then it can be treated rather like a normal BBQ just by not adding the spicy sauces. So pretty suitable for anyone, even those who dont eat meat.

I wasnt aware that Walking Street contained any type of establishment that is worth visiting for any reason, except perhaps to use the toilets in an emergency. Walking Street is hideously overpriced and soooo boring. Cant imagine why anyone goes there.

Agree about Rimpa Limpin for the views but the food is very average...

That is correct, but if you over indulge, you could get sick.

I second that.

Cherrie's and Wii's usually get good write ups for food and reasonable prices, suggest Mata Hari too if you want a more upmarket atmoshphere and a bit more expensive but not outrageous.

Seafood restaurants in Bang Saray and Baan Amphur.

Take them to Tiffany's show.

Edit: Reuen Thai restaurant has a traditional Thai show with average food, good if it's not raining.

Mum Aroi in Nahklua for seafood and views also.

Reminds me of the local TV advert for one or other of the farang restaurants: "yes, we specialise in steaks but we are a truly international restaurant and so we also do pasta and burgers".

There's just not so many 'nice' Thai restaurants with the best food usually being available at streetside food carts or local open air restaurants which are not big on decor.

Just seems a shame that there are so many recommendations for farang places and so few for Thai ones, which places would be a little more unusual for visitors such as the OP was talking about. I do realise that he said Thai and international though.

Well, when I get visitors from farangland I take them to the sort of Thai places I eat in every day and they all seem to love it. In fact they usually say it's the most memorable part of the visit. Not much nice decor in any of those places though. No burgers either!

this is on Pattaya Tai , next to Center Condo a few shop down = diagonally across from the 7-11

there a 3 Thai restaurants all sandwiched next to each other - this is the busy place in the middle with a bed of ice laid out with sea food present.

service can be painfully slow when they are busy as it is a Mom and Pop operation with each dish cooked to order ,

but this is real Thai food.

FYI - Cherries that has been recommended sucks.

There are plenty of Thai restaurants being mentioned on this forum from time to time, for example Mum Aroy and Ruen Thai, both better-class Thai establishments. Of course you can also eat in the cheaper places, like Leng Kee or even at the street side, but I think most people coming to Thailand as tourists would prefer something a little higher class. I would imagine if they seem to love it, they might just be polite

@JimmyTheMook: You're the first person I've heard to not like Cherries Restaurant. It could be interesting to hear why do you think they suck?

Good point mate,travel 8,000 miles and eat pasta and steak what a silly idea lol lol.Take em to some thai markets and see all the food thais eat,and the smells that will make them feel more gracious when they go home lol lol

Walk-up the hill to see the look-out over the bay and then further back to the Big Buddha.

A walk along the beach from Central Pattaya, around the point and then further along the sand towards the big temple in Naklua (Sanctuary of Truth I think it is called).

Breakfast in Tropical Berts.

I would take your guests to Walking Street for a night-out. The shows in Angelwitch aren't bad (if you haven't seen them) and some of the go-go's are OK: Airport, Alcatraz and Baccara I would particularly recommend.

I reall don't think these places are hideously price - in fact imo I think good value. Considering what a visitor would pay at "home" these prices are resaonable.

I like the Floating Market and do not it boring at all - good food, entertainment is free and a great place to wander around.

Thai food:

Aung Kam restaurant - 3rd Road next to Pattaya Driving Range (northern Thai food)

The street before Woodlands - directly opposite the barrier to Green Park Hotel - Thai food is superb (never remember the name)

Naklua - turn right on your way to Sanctuary of Truth (at V junction) and there are small great Thai food places there.

Jomtien Beach - right at the very end

At the darkside opened recently khao talo's hamburger service,

Unfortenly they only have junkfood,many differente hamburgers,and some dutch snacks like kroket and frikandel,

yesterday i tried out his crocodille meatburger and it actually tasted good.

The guy who makes the burgers is Dutch,maybey that's why his burgers taste ok and not expensive.

For Thai food I would recommend Somsakdi's restaurant on soi 1. Quite popular but not too busy. It's open to the outside, but with a large roof over it, kind of like a large sala. Great food last time I was there and my British visitors loved it. Also for those who are a bit more adventurous, how about any of the street stalls or restaurants on soi 15, off Walking Street? Eat with the gogo girls and other sundry Thais and farangs. Great food at great prices too! Steer clear of the Nam Plaa, though, it will blow your head off!
