Hi,

If I were to enter the country on a 90 day visa extension would this be enough time to process a marriage visa if I am marrying a Thai national? I have a feeling I might be opening a whole can of worms by asking this question here as I am sure it is a really complicated process with lots of things to consider more than just time constraints (as these things usually are). He seems to think that just getting the papers is simple so that I can stay, although I think you still have to leave every 90days from what I have been told.

Do I need to leave the country to process this type of visa (of which I am sure there are various types and processes?)

I hope this question is not too massive and is in the right section.

Thanks in advance.

Not quite sure what you are asking but if you want a 12 month extension these are the financial requirements.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

So once the money has been in the bank for 2 months you can apply for a 12 month extension at Immigration. The above financial requirements are assuming that you are Male. If Female they are not needed.

Assuming that is what you want to do. With this you do not have to leave the country every 90 days.

If you are asking about a Visa you apply at a Thai Consulate in another country and you will have to leave every 90 days.

Just read your post again and getting Married only takes a few days to sort out the documents and register the Marriage.

Josie, the financial requirements does not apply for you.

Only men that are married to Thai Ladies are obligated to show money in bank or income.

Females married to Thai men just co to immigrations and ask for 1 year extension based on marriage.

Just be sure to get single entry non-O based on marriage from your local consulate.

If you are not married yet, there's other things you have to do first.

Paperwork:

1. Application form T.M. 7 with one photograph size 4x6 cm. and Visa Fee 1900.-Baht

2. Copy Marriage Certificate

3. Copy Kor Ror 2 from amphur office (not older than six months)

4. Child's birth certificate (if any)

5. Copy husbands’s house registration

6. Copy husbands’s identity card

7. Copy passport, non-Im visa, arrival card.

8. Interview the husband and wife for confirming status of husband and wife

9. Map to residency

10. Picture of house and family, in house and outside showing house number.

The marriage itself takes minutes but you must obtain a paper from your Embassy that provides your name/passport data/work/salary/two references in home country and if ever married proof of it ending. Nothing is checked - just information for files. Your signature on that paper is notarized by Embassy and you then have translated into Thai and registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Once that is done you and husband visit a District Office to register the marriage. All can be done in a day or two so not nearly as difficult as you seem to fear.

Thank you , yes I am fearful of paperwork and embassies etc in Thailand, it always seems so complicated and I worry about missing something :(

This however, seems simple enough. I assume all this can be done from the British Embassy in Thailand, I don't need to get things done from the UK before I leave (refs. can be emailed etc)?

Thanks again.

Easy to do at Embassy and no need for anything but a name and address to put on form for reference. Believe you should have copy of birth certificate in case needed for something and any divorce decree (you have names we Americans don't use for such things). Check the UK Embassy Bangkok web site for full information. It really is one of the better sources for information.
