A1 English Test

Featured Replies

Hi

My wife and I are just about to apply for her settlement visa.

Story is -

She had settlement visa which was extended for a year which finished end last year. She had to return to Thai because her father has cancer. Was in UK for 2 years, back to Thai for just over a year. Always been together as we have a child.

We came back to UK for few months on Family Visit and heading back to Thailand next week to re-apply for settlement visa again! Stress haha, anyway we have most things we need.

My question is regarding the A1 english test, she passed ESOL skills for life Entry Level 1 back in July 2008 and we have the Certificate from Cambridge Uni. Is this acceptable or does she need to re-sit the test in Thailand? We are applying next week.

Reason we didnt get ILR before now is due to her not passing 4 times while in UK

Will

Yes, it is acceptable, at least entry level one is acceptable when applying for FLR from within the UK.

Incidentally, the 'life in the UK' test is really designed for people whose English is at entry level three or above. For people below that level there is an alternative, an 'Esol with citizenship content' course, available at any accredited college. It's a thirty hour course that take you up one level (eg; entry level one to entry level two) and contains all the citizenship content of the LITUK test.
