JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- The governments of Indonesia and the Philippines have agreed to increase their border security by cooperating through coordinating patrol teams.

Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul told the Antara news agency that as part of a military cooperation between the two countries, a coordinated patrol will be enforced in the two countries' sea borders.

TNI Commander Admiral Agus Suhartono and Philippine Armed Forces Commander General Eduardo San Lorenzo Oban met on Tuesday in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, where the two military leaders also discussed military involvement during natural disasters and their humanitarian efforts.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed to holding future meetings, as well as continue carrying out their military cooperation programs, which also include exchange visits and service to service or armed forces to armed forces cooperation programs. Other cooperation efforts include joint education and training operations

The Philippines' General Oban is also scheduled to travel to Bandung, West Java, where he will visit arms industry PT Pindad and aircraft industry PT Dirgantara Indonesia.
