Hi - my significant other (she is Canadian) will be arriving in Thailand in October and staying with me for about 28 days. We both then fly to Nepal (28 days there) - and then back to Bangkok. The next morning she flys back to North America. If that is confusing here it is spelled out:

15 October - arrive Thailand

14 November - Fly to Nepal

13 December - arrive back in Thailand from Nepal

14 December - fly to North America

She is getting her visas in advance here in the USA: Should she get a 30 day tourist visa? a Non-immigrant double entry visa? or a Tourist Visa and then a Transit Visa? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

If you have tickets out of Thailand within 30 days, she can arrive on a 30 day visa exempt stamp (No need to contact a consulate).

Without ticket out within 30 days get a double entry tourist visa from a Thai consulate near you.

Tourist visas are for 60 days/entry and be extended by 30 days/entry.

Without a tourist visa or a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days she might be refuse to board the plane.

Seems she has a ticket to Nepal in 30 days, so she should be fine coming without a visa.

I believe 15th October to 14th November is 31 days, so she would need a visa (I could be wrong, it has happened on rare occasions in the past  ).

Yikes - i did not know this forum was populated with Math Majors...!

OK - suppose we work it out so she spends 30 days in Thailand (October 15 until 14 November) - and then flys to Nepal and returns to Thailand on 13 December. What Visa(s) do you recommend then?

The problem is the October 15 until November 14 period, the day one enters counts as one day, and the day one exits also counts as one day, =31 days. So delay the departure from Canada one day, or depart to Nepal on the 13th, or get a single entry Tourist Visa.

Ok so what I am understanding from this is that if she stays in Thailand for 25 days on the first segment; then leaves the country (to Nepal eg) and comes back and spends 2-3 days in Thailand before flying home - she just needs a tourist visa...(which was free the last time I checked).

If, however, she spends 29 days in the fist segment in Thailand; goes off to Nepal, and then returns to Thailand for two days before flying home, then she needs a Visa (Multiple Entry; 60 day) - because that =(s) 31 days.

Di or no di?
