I am 32 years old guy from delhi, india. I visited thailand first time in 2010... i just visited for travel and holidays....as u all know that this country always gives very nice impression always so i was also so much impressed that i wanted to visit again and again...ofcourse not for thai ladies only bcoz i m not much into that habit....i just like to be alone almost.....

Well ...i visited again and i decided to stay in this country country. but to stay in thailand is not as easy as i thought....first of all the language....and second is i need to do some business also.....so i started learning pasa thai and now i can speak and understand a little bit ....i hope i will learn all soon.....Now for the second thing...means some business in thai....i visited so many places...met a lot of people...observed markets also...and finally came to a decision that i should buy a land..not so big...just 300-400 square metre and make a building for apartment on rent.....

I came to know that i can not buy land or home on my name....but i have seen a lot of people from other countries doing business in thailand.....so there must be some ways to do business in my own name...so i need help of the all respective members to suggest me the safe way that how can i buy a land on my name and do this apartment business in bkk or nearby places......

all suggestions r welcome.....

Employ professional advisors

Or alternatively, take the advice of strangers you have never seen, posting on the internet behind anonymous nicknames (nicknames which could indicate that they are someone else, for example, when in fact they are an evil genius intent on taking over the world)

Read books

Go to Nana Plaza and look for an investment advisor

Hi 'Khak' you pose way too many questions to answer in one sitting, may I recommend you visit one of the many drop-in investment/good idea business clinics, dotted around Thailand. There are many to pick from, completewith refreshments and personal therapists on standby to help with the stress ofit all.

Experts of all nationalities are standing by to give advice, whether you need it or not.

I myself have a great idea, for us. Your money, my idea, (patent pending) "Socks & Sandals" we could sell and give advice on winning combos, I think it's going to be huge.PM me…Mate!

If you’re an Indian? Why not open up an Indian restaurant or delicatessen in Chiang Mai? There would be a market for some decent Indian restaurants in Chiang Mai as there are presently none, all crap.

You could call it, the Deli from Delhi.

As for visas and so on, I think there are less restrictions on South Asians as there is on white people. I know that in the UK Indians can own property, own businesses, work and form a huge part of the population once they are approved and allowed in, so I cannot see any problems for you in Thailand.

If your ever in Pattaya, go down to beach road. There are some indian people that own some suit making shops. I bet they can give you the best honest advice.

South Asians have the same restrictions on them as every other foreigner when it comes to owning property, businesses, and working. For visas, they are even more restricted than most Western nationalities (I guess that's what you mean by "white people"). IE., Indian passport holders must have a visa to enter Thailand while most Western nationalities do not.

I'm not sure why you think the laws in the UK have any bearing on anything that happens in Thailand.

"Go to Nana Plaza and look for an investment advisor."

Too funny. Even Beetlejuice got one in.

I hesitate to ask, but what does Khak mean? I have a general idea, but, maybe, you can't post it.

I assumed it was Walsall for Cach.

Or perhaps a foul Vietnamese obscenity that my friend refused to translate.

Or perhaps an abbreviation for Khan aka ...

Perhaps we should offer a prize for the most entertaining suggestion...

I realise I have previously recommended a notary public that loiters at Nana BTS; in that instance, the suggestion was made in good faith...

"...even Beetlejuice got one in" - are you allowed to say that on TV? Sounds a bit Frankie Howerd to me...

Unless he has something else in mind , then...

Khaek (or in OP's own sound spelling "Khak")...is the thai reference for Indian people (or anyone with indian feature), thais refer them as "khon khaek" คน แขก

Kha-ek…..just pronounce "kha" and "ek" together very rapidly

Just like the reference to anyone with caucasian feature as khon farang, or "FARANG"

the chinese.......as "khon jean"

the japanese.....as "khon yee-poon"

....and so on...

Depending on where you are, in Thailand, perhaps you should try and find the Indian area in your city.

If you find the temple, you will normally find the people.

There are many Indian people here, running all sorts of businesses. In Pattaya, there are even shops which cater for Indian customers.

If you know a lot about apartment business, that's good.

If not, Thailand might not be a good place to learn.

Why should he look for other Indian people? Why should he be forced into a stereotype? What difference does his nationality make?

I would recommend that you stick to what you are good at. For the OP: Perhaps you would make a good quiz-show host; or perhaps set up a business as a Contract Interrogator for the CIA and other organisations, since you seem better at asking questions than listening to answers... I believe Thailand is one of the preferred locations for such activities.

I suggested he talk to other Indians, because they have already done, what he is trying to do. They should be able to give good experienced advice.

I never talked to other Scots when I set up my own business

"I'm thinking of going into business"

"Ayeyefukkergiesabeer"

"what are the relative merits of HK or Singapore?"

"Hoachinwitottiethepairaiem"

Oh yes indeed I think he should make up his own mind.

As many of us can testify...the closure of the mines...fishing...steel industry was the making of us.

The closure of the pub was the last straw.

I can't really imagine that happening. Though, looking at the clock, I suppose it is inevitable.

I'm wishing the OP all the best. He'll need it if he plans to build from scratch. Truly its an insane idea but if he makes it work it'll be hats off to him.

Others here have made the leap and are enjoying at least some of the fruits of success. Go for it OP and feel free to use smokie36 construction....very reliable. biggrin.gif

For the OP:

If one looks carefully at the really successful business men in Tailand, you will see that they are not parochial, and willing to invest outside their own local environment. I think the idea of buying some land and putting an apartment block on it is a good idea. My mate Rohit has some fairly innovative ideas on this topic, and I could put you in touch with him, if you like...

If I trusted him, I;d have been rich by now, apparently
