Nai Harn Theft-Heads Up

Recommended Posts

Posted

a thai neighbor from across the street came over last night to warn me to lock my motorbike at night and my windows when i leave in the morning for work. apparently, in the last 3 nights there have been motorbike thefts on both soi samakee 2 & 4 as well as two house break-ins. i am assuming the incidents all involved thais, but i thought that i would give the heads up to you all living in my neighborhood nonetheless.

yes, i am aware of that :( but i do think it's good to give heads up in regards to information like this

Thanks Amyb !

For whatever reason those Samakee streets are notorious for theft and break-in's. Is it the poor lighting? Lack of dogs?

I think Karen Bravo might have input here......

you are welcome GOM!

every foreigner i know who has ever lived on the samakee streets has had a break-in, and i suppose the lack of both lighting and dogs has a lot to do with it. makes me glad for my little soi dog family that think they are guard dogs! :)

waiting for Karen Bravo...

Lack of bars on doors+windows?

Everyone needs bars + alarm that scream 'someone is stealing in my house' in thai. I know i wont move in my house untill that is installed.

Errrrrm......why?

Wasn't there a thread where you mentioned a certain type of security you now keep? Thought maybe you would have some input as to why some areas seem to have more of this type of thing than others. But no worries if you do not have an opinion one way or another.

This time of year also lends itself to the robberies on the viewpoint road between Rawai and Kata, I would advise all to avoid that road late nite if on a bike.

What do you expect?

It's Nai harn..

same shit in Rawai...

True.

I think it's because the people who have lived there for generations see themselves being priced out everywhere.

Land, rent, food and pay rises don't happen here.

At least the Russians that have flooded the area because it's cheap will be their new unsuspecting victims.

What are you talking about? If they've been here for generations they own land. Do you know any native Rawai families? The ones I know are pretty well off! They collect rent, not pay it. Food at the outdoor Thai markets is less in Rawai than other places I've been in Thailand, like Sa Kaew....

agreed

the poor farmers are now landlords, property developers and drive Fortuners :)

The burglars are the tourist season workers from other provinces, living inexpensively in Rawai/Nai Harn, and presently with low or no income

a friends house was burglared last low season, 50 and 42 inch flatscreens, computers, kitchen appliances, motocy, nothing touched

but all electric cables where pulled out of the walls and ceilings. 8k baht of coppercables cost 50k baht to install again

Utter trollop. Soon as they see those window bars and smug little signs with Big Red 'security alert' on them, they know you have something to 'protect' other than your Fortuna or whatever parked just outside.

I remember the late Dennis Hopper's apartment in New York looking like a slum. He said 'Well, deters thieves, they think 'nothing worth stealing from there ...'

Not sure

but friends houses with bars have been burglared

None of my properties have been burglared, and no bars on any of them

I must admit, i don't socialize at the local mom & pop shop drinking 35 baht Chang's out front to even get to know these so called wealthy landlords.

A 'majority' of these 'landlords' sold out many years ago when the land was cheap, they stayed on at their smaller plot and bought fortuners and built a humble home with the money.

Go up to Kamala and see the muslims that are now driving new Mercedes and BMW from their sell outs, leaves pitiful Rawai/Nai harn as it's rural dustbowl of crime and horrid empty shophouses that now litter the place.

Good luck to anyone who got rich out of that hole, i'd sell out too.

I don't drink. And yes.... I'm sure you don't socialize with Thais...

If they are pretty and have a Vagina, i socialize.

How many male farangs really hang out with male Thai's outside work?

Be honest because i don't know of any.

Grumpy.I hang with a circle of other expats and we don't frequent bars to get the village idiots with rice stuck between their toes.

I like to hang with Thai girls that are educated and don't mind paying their own way in life as well as good conversation over dinner and sense of humor, that's most important to me than a young trophy wife that's half my age that understands every second word i say.

Conversations with 'Hab" or 'Lent' instead of "have" or "rent" don't really get my interest when talking to someone.

I'm sorry but i set my standards a little higher than the bar flies.

If this is what happens when i hit 60, i'll blow my brains out or leave.

So you live in Bangkok then? There certainly aren't that many of what you describe in Kata that I've ever seen. Maybe I should hang at Mon Tri's and the Boathouse more I guess to find those educated Thai girls that are on the sponsors payroll while the sponsor is away.

During the last 15 years I had no problems like that here. Maybe Nanai in Patong is still a safe area, even though there are some shootings once in a while??

I see... I'm sure you can't speak any Thai, so why would you hang out with Thai people? According to you; if they aren't pretty and don't have a vagina, you don't socialize. Well that pretty much sums up about your attitude towards Thai people, I guess. I hope you have a wonderful life here in Thailand with your circle of expats. Oh and "Thai girls that are educated and can pay their own way."

Posted

I dont think Bangla road would have the same appeal if it was filled with Thai blokes saying "you buy me dink" Im sure a lot of expats would be speaking a lot less Thai also.

As for the robberies, Ive put a GPS tracker on one of my motorbikes, they cost around $60US and you just ring the number and it gives you a location on your smartphone. I'll be buying a couple more.

I don't know about crime in Nai Harn but it would appear rampant snobbery has broken out in Kata!!!

Syd, clearly a man of standards.

I concur, Sir.

And yet another post is removed. 2nd and last warning. Keep the topic civil, thank you.

Problem is LIK, is that the topic went from crime in Nai Harn to a certain poster's

"If they are pretty and have a Vagina, i socialize."

Which for sure must be offensive to the OP as well as other female board members. Then we get:

"Grumpy.I hang with a circle of other expats and we don't frequent bars to get the village idiots with rice stuck between their toes."

Which is flat out racist.

Katasyd please mention these two posts to:

"I like to hang with Thai girls that are educated and don't mind paying their own way in life as well as good conversation over dinner "

and let us know how that works out for you, as (on topic) probably the next crime will be one of those ladies sticking a fork in your eye.
