You want a one year extension of stay for Thai wife obtained from Immigration serving your location (which is the list of requirements you posted) for 1,900 baht. But to start that process you must have a non immigrant visa entry and that will be an extra 2,000 baht from Immigration and may require a trip to Bangkok (not all offices make the conversion). You do not want a multi entry non immigrant O visa (only available from Consulate) as that requires exit every 90 days or less.

1. You visit immigration well before your tourist visa stay ends with proof of meeting Thai Wife extension of stay requirements - obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa entry (conversion from your current tourist visa entry) for 2,000 baht.

2. Immigration will most likely tell you to return in 60 days to do the one year extension of stay for 1,900 baht.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

A friend of mine hasnt sorted his out as he lives and works in one place but his wife and kids live in another...he is trying to get extension based on marriage/kids with WP as minimum 40K income but each immigration says it is the other office..which one should he go to as he just did a border run this time but will need to go in 3 months

The extenson based on Thai family is given so that one can live with the family. That seems not to be the case here and complicates it.

If working inside Thailand he should have family with him at his location for such extensions of stay as this is always closely checked to prove it is de facto (living together on a genuine domestic basis). If he is working outside Thailand (where this normally happens) he would be better having a multi entry non immigrant O visa (which is easily obtained in KL with marriage paperwork and 100k in a bank account).

Thats fair that an O visa is issued so you can be with family. However his circumstance is that he has had visas for a few years and wants to now apply for extensions rather than having to do 90 day border runs......he works in the week in BKK and then travels home for the weekend, so in fact is staying with his family (sometimes) would it be best that he just gets the extension based on work and do that in BKK?..I dont understand why the immigration where his wife is wont do the extension...surely you must be allowed to work somewhere in Thailand other than the exact town you live in....or not as the case seems...what is best for him to do?

The logic would be to extend on basis of work if he has that option (take the easy road). Worry about the marriage extension when the time comes and perhaps living in the same location. Immigration is very pandemic on marriages of convenience. I know this is not the case here but when they see separation it is there first thought (although kids normally helps calm this). But by policy it should be done where applicant/family live and do not believe there is any rule to cover this not being one location.

Cheers, he has almost 3 months to get it sorted, so best in BKK based on work
