Two dead, 13 injured in bomb blast in northwest Pakistan

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least two people on Thursday were killed and 13 more were injured after a car bomb exploded in Peshawar, northwest Pakistan, Ary News television reported.

A vehicle loaded with explosives was detonated while it was parked outside a hotel in the Shoba Chowk area of Peshawar. The blast damaged some shops as well as windows of nearby buildings.

The explosion took place in an area of the city which is busy market place neighboring Qissa Khawani Bazaar and other businesses. Police have cordoned off the area and an investigation was launched on the terror attack.

Firefighters were rushed to the site as the explosion caused set on fire the area but it was later controlled. The 13 injured individuals were transported to the Lady Reading Hospital for further medical treatment.

Peshawar has been the scene of several terror attacks in recent times. On June 12, at least 37 people were killed and over 100 sustained injuries in two explosions at the Kyber supermarket area.

The twin explosions were powerful enough to shatter the windowpanes of nearby buildings while a restaurant located alongside a five-story residential tower was destroyed completely, collapsing big portion of the plaza.

In early June, at least eight people were killed when an explosive device was detonated at a market in the northwestern city. Peshawar lies near Pakistan's tribal region on the Afghan border.
