The site of Phuket's latest murder-suicide was a woman's boutique

on Nanai Road in Patong.

PHUKET: -- A jealous policeman shot his wife point-blank then turned the gun on himself in the latest murder-suicide in Phuket.

Patong Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Suchapha Saman-iam, wife of Snr Sgt Maj Boonsuk Saman-iam, 39.

According to eyewitness accounts, the shooting took place at about 8pm at the couple's home on Nanai Road, where they operated the Yaris Design woman's fashion tailor shop.

Witnesses, including Miss Suchapha's mother, said officer Boonsuk was convinced his wife was having an affair with another man, as he had heard rumors and his wife never picked up his phone calls.

Officer Boonsuk was on duty all day yesterday providing security for the general election, during which time he tried to call her numerous times, to no avail.

He returned home after delivering ballot boxes to Phuket Rajabhat University where the votes were counted.

When Mrs Suchapha returned home, she told him she went with friends to the Phuket Variety weekend market on the outskirts of Phuket Town.

He did not believe this and a violent argument ensued. It ended with officer Boonsuk, still in uniform, drawing his 9mm service revolver and shooting his wife point blank in the head in front of her mother at the back of the boutique.

After that he turned the gun to his own skull and fired.

The two bodies, lying face-up and foot-to-foot, were taken to the hospital for examination and storage until they are claimed by relatives.

The couple had been married four years and leave behind one child, a girl.

shouldnt it be about time the RTP ask all officers to keep there firearms locked at the station when off duty?

I'm sure they are required to carry their personal gun at all times (on & off duty). Guns & bullets are not supplied by RTP, officers have to buy their own gun & ammo. Even uniform & radio have to be bought.

No, officers are NOT allowed to carry their duty guns off-duty. Ofcourse this is only acted upon when they do something bad/make trouble for superior officers.

Not correct

Thai Police does not have duty hand guns. They must purchase their own gun, it is privately owned. However it is tax free, so a Police officer can purhace every second year a Glock or similar for approx 35k baht, while sivilians pay approx 70k baht including taxes.

Police offisers are allowed to carry anywhere at any time, including in airports. In airplanes both sivilians and police offisers guns must be checked in as special luggage, and handed out at arrival

In this incident, the gun was used in his home

Chances is he was right -- but still sad and unnecessary. A better 'revenge' would have been to get evidence and get full custody of the daughter during a divorce...

dam_n right, he was right about her shenanigans behind his back.

Point is, he must have read too many Shakespere', If I were in his shoes, <removed>

You are incorrect. It has been repeatedly reported before by higher level police officers during press-conferences of a police officer committing a crime, that there is no general allowance of officers to carry their firearms off-duty. The fact that they own them has little/no impact on the rule itself, as unless a special permit is obtained a person cannot carry a firearm here on their person.
