Hi, might be a simple question really but i have used 2 entries out of my current triple entry visa and wondered if i can go get a 30 day extension at a Thai Immigration office and save doing my final visa run for a later date? Or do i have to use up all 3 entries before i can get a 30 day extension?

Cheers.

I have talked to tourist several time about this and they say immigration refused to extend my first stay or second stay. After figureing out why it is usually immigration doing a good deed for the visa holder. If immigration had extended the 1rst or 2nd entry the third would not have been valid for use because of the use before date would have expired.

Perhaps you are talking about a 3 entry on a three month issue period? For the normal six month issue period that most home country consulates provide there is no problem using extensions and have not seen any reports of them being refused.

Only if the visa was a 90 day variety, in which case it would make no sense to obtain 3 entries.

But for a 180 day version, certainly the first entry could be extended. And extension of the second would be based on how soon from visa issue you entered Thailand. Four days after issue? Extension would give you an extra 25 days or so, up to the visa expiration date. Then, out and back, using 3rd entry -- another 90 days, with extension. So, 9 months total in Thailand, less the 4 days burned up between issue and first entry, and the time required for the out and backs.

If you wait a month to enter Thailand after visa issue, no sense in also extending the second entry, as the visa would expire before those extra 30 days kicked in (thus nullifying the third entry -- and a helpful Immigration officer might point this out). The math, however, still says 9-months total in Thailand, less the time burned up between issue and entry. In this case, you lose a month, not just 4 days -- which is why it is suggested not to get your visa too far in advance (although 4 days from issue to entry, per first example, would probably be cutting it too close, particularly if applying by mail.....).
