Mac Can See The Nation, Win 7 Cannot

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've running firefox in both Apple and Win 7 boots on my new Macbook Pro - firefox under Apple connects to nationmultimediadotcom without a problem but in Windows ff I'm getting "name servers not answering". This has persisted over the past week.

What's up and how would you fix it?

Thanks

Flush DNS cache - Try this first.

Also check the DNS settings, make sure it's set to "Obtain DNS server automatically", or you can specify your own...

DNS Addressing - How to Change

If the problem still persists, uninstall any VPN software (if you're using one) and reboot.

In some cases, the MS Virtual WiFI Miniport Adapter has been known to cause problems. Disabling this adapter seems to fix DNS issues for some folks. However, do not do this until you've exhausted all other options.

Thanks Sulasno and Supernova. I cleared the cache and I am using OpenDNS already (should have said that before) ... and this is what I still get:

Nameservers for www.nationmultimedia.com:

  • ns1.krungthepturakit.com returned (SERVFAIL)
  • ns2.krungthepturakit.com returned (SERVFAIL)

And yes, I've turned it off and back on ... ha ha.

Maybe try Google Public DNS instead of OpenDNS, see if that works. Otherwise, use DNS servers provided by your ISP.

Have you actually "cleared the DNS cache"?

DNS cache and browser cache are two different things, btw.

This worked, although I went through periods of confusion.

Changed the DNS from Opendns to Google Public DNS. Cleared both caches. Rebooted. Still got Opendns message (this I don't understand).

On the Opendns failed search page I used its search function to find The Nation, took one of the suggestions and it came up okay.

Replaced my home pages with the now-found Nation and other unchanged links.

Cleared all those caches again.

Fired up Firefox again and The Nation (and its annoying add section covering the bottom of the screen) came up.

I'm happy.

BTW, for "fun" I switched back to the pair of Opendns DNS and I got the not responding name servers again so I re-established the Google Public DNS ones and I'm golden again.

Thanks.
