Hi there

I just made a mistake on the 3 month early 800k deposit.

I looked at the date on the little white slip they put in your passport to tell you the next sign in day, which said the 3 AUGUST, and put a reminder in my phone to send money in on the 28 JULY, so that it would be 3 months early.

In fact my extension runs until 15 OCT, so the funds needed to be in 15 JULY.

Allowing for a few days to get funds in, what is my best option here?

Are you allowed to just be a human being?

cheers

Depends on the mood of the immigration officer. Be prepared to start over from square #1, leaving the country and get a new non-immigrant "O" visa. A tourist visa or visa exempt entry can be made to work, at additional cost and effort. Can you get an affidavit from your embassy certifying a monthly pension income? If you are married to a Thai there is another option.

According to Immigration they cannot allow you anything. Bank deposits and the period in the Account must comply with the rules. They may however be willing to give you a 30 day extension to enable your money and the period required to mature.

It is all up to the discretion of the immigration officer. My last extension I had part of the required money transferred from a fund account which expired only a few days before the extension renewal into my savings account, but brought the fund account book with me which showed that the money had been in there for 1 year.It was accepted by the officer.

Thanks for the help

Can you get an affidavit from your embassy certifying a monthly pension income?

I used this method some years ago before the 3 month early thing came in, simply asking my bank guy to send a fax saying my "pension fund" would allow me "such and such an amount" for the next three years. He sent a brief note and the embassy accepted it and made the letter (at extortionate cost).

Are you saying if one has a pension certification from the embassy or elsewhere one doesn't need the 3 months?

They may however be willing to give you a 30 day extension to enable your money and the period required to mature.

That would do it. Do we have precedent?

In fact I have been very sick indeed the last days, a separate issue but now I may relate it. An upper respiratory tract infection with a severe sore throat and earache, acheing, grizzly speech at best, and not enough energy to do anything but look at the bedroom wall. A little research told me a doctor visit really couldn't help more than I could help myself. However I am now well enough to drive to the hospital and get some certification.....I still look all puffy.....of that so I will. If I can make it to Immigration too I'll go with my girlfriend and she can bring someone out to the car to take a look at me for some sympathy.

But still interested in my two questions above.......

ps: I have had enough funds for this in a foreign bank and have statements that the money has been in there for some time. Is a foreign bank good enough? (yeah, I doubt it!)

When using Embassy letter or combination of money in account and income there is no 3 month requirement. But Immigration can request supporting documentation.

FOR Americans,

get a letter stating ur pension/income and then make up the difference in ur bank book. ( to 800,000)

No seasoning required. I did mine three weeks ago.

No supporting info needed or asked for. IN and out in 10 inutes here in Phuket

Be nice and you can get away with all sorts of technical mistakes with the Immigration people. Certainly has worked for me in Chiang Mai but then again you find the most charming people in Thailand here.
