Several injured, arrested in Berlin anti-capitalist demonstration

BERLIN (BNO NEWS) -- Several people were injured and others were arrested on Sunday when clashes broke out between German police and anti-capitalist demonstrators in Berlin, an official said.

The German news agency DPA reported that clashes erupted after demonstrators reportedly threw stones and bottles against police cars, and set off various incendiary devices. According to witnesses, an estimated 800 people attended the protest, while police said there were only 400 protesters.

A police spokesman confirmed there had been injuries and arrests, but did not provide any figures.

The protest was apparently held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of anti-capitalist activist Carlo Giulani. The 23-year-old was killed in July 2001 during clashes at the Group of Eight summit in Genoa, Italy.

A judge ruled that the policeman who shot him was acting in self defense as Giulani approached his vehicle holding a fire extinguisher in the air.

Poor protestors. They must miss the good old days of East Germany.

They might be opposed to capitalism, but how many of them have ever worked as field hands or done heavy manual labour?
