Moving To Another City - Bank Letter For Visa Renewal

Hi all,

in a couple of days i will move from Phuket to Chiang Mai (forever).

On 15th of september i have to renew my extension of stay based on marriage, and as you know one of the required docs

is the bank letter (400.000k).

Since i have to apply after 15 aug. and my bank account is here in Phuket how and where i have to request the bank letter?

I spoke with Kasikorn in Phuket and they said i have to apply in person here, which means i have to come back again just for this?

Since i'll be very busy at that time i want to avoid that if possible!

Any alternative solution?

Most banks while allow you to apply at any brnch, some allow only at the branch your account is with. Not sure about Kasikorn, but I would just contact one of the branches in CM and see if they can do it for you. Best is if you go in person with your wife.

If not, you indeed have to go to Phuket to get the letter or you transfer the funds now to a new account in CM and let i season for 2 months. You cna get a 60 day extension without the need of showing money. After the end of the 60 days the money will have seasoned long enough for a 1 year extension.

You want the account where you live or get charged out of area service for every transaction. Suspect you could open Chiang Mai account and then transfer without having to restart your 2 month period. If they have heartburn on that as said above 60 days are easily obtained and they would provide plenty of time.

In Chiang Mai you will find it best to open an account at KadSuanKau brances of the bank (Central Store). They are used to Foreigners and know the letter requirments etc well. I have only dealt with Bangkok Bank there and have had good service. Transfering money is expensive. It cost 500 baht to have3 an account of 400000 baht sent from one account to my new adccount. May be best to carry cash if you feel it is safe but leave a small amount in your old account so there is not need for extra identificdation and references when you open an account.

I hope they allow me to do so...i am not sure.

I'll let you know what choice they will give me in immigration next week...thank you for the suggestions!
