Education Visa Question

Featured Replies

Greetings.

I am in Thailand since last year on ED visa arranged by my Thai language school, currently at the start of my 2nd year. According the Immigration officer at the time i was there for the necessary stamps, this would be my last year as 2 years is the maximum. He stamped my passport and said "next year you go home..."

First of all, i wasn't aware 2 years was the max. I have been told that an ED could stretch to 3 years. Also,a recent news item about some foreigner on ED and the local fishtank showed that it is/was possible to have an ED visa for longer period?( this guy didnt study but managed to be on ED for 7 years on a row) It does confuse me a bit how the rules exactly are regarding ED. Anyway, i do not see myself studying Thai for more than 2 years and have other plans. My question is if it is possible to get an ED visa if i would apply at any University in Thailand after being here on ED for 2 years already.

Anyone has any idea? :)

The lenght of how long you can stay on extensions of stay of an ED-visa depends on the course, 5 years is certainly possible. But your school should be able to tell you more.

A new course means a new ED-visa, and if you go and study at an university level course, you normally get extensions of stay for 1 year at a time. You don't have to study Thai, it can be something else.
