Renew License Plates

Featured Replies

I bought my second hand honda jazz a few months ago and the lady who i bought it from tells me I have to get the plates renewed - she did not tell me until 31st July and it was too late by then to renew in time - so i want to do it tomorrow - the lady at my condo office said i have to go to immigration (i imagine for a letter of residency?) and then she has to verify it (maybe stamp it) and then I have to go to Ch Am to sort it out... anyone confirm this before i drive off to immigration?

To get proper advice you need to be more exact

1. In the cars blue registration book, are you registered as new owner or is it still in old owners name? If latter, yes you do need a Certificate of Residence from Immigration and your passport and signed transfer forms both parties and previous owners ID copy signed

2. If you already are registered as owner, all you need to do is bring blue reg book to DLT (Department of Land Transportation) to renew annual road tax

ah thanks, blue book already in my name - i got it changed in BKK but now i am in hua hin - i have not notified change of address so car still registered at old address - i have a letter of residency at old adress can i just take this to hua hin DLT or do i have to go to one in bkk?

Take you blue book and compulsory insurance paper and that's it no need to tell them change of address

at your local DLT, Pranbury, you show certificate of residence in Hua Hin and they will request BKK DLT to transfer vehicle to Pretchuap Khiri kan. Takes 7 days, and then change of adress in blue book. At the same time you can change to Prechuap Khiri Kan plates if you desire, approx 1200 baht

Of course you can do it yourself or you can have your insurance man do it for you. My insurance man does the registration as part of his service. All I do is pay him for my insurance policy and the cost of the registration. If I need anything from immigration, he would tell me but if I have ever needed anything, it was a one time thing because I have not needed anything from immigration for years even though I have changed vehicles.
