Strong Baht Likely To Spur Foreign Travel

The kind of Thai people who can afford to make trips to Europe or wherever (apart from those going for study/employment) are usually the extremely wealthy and they dont give a cr_p whether the baht is at 29.70 to the usd or 31, 32 etc.

What a moronic story.

Well said.

.....And on page two of the ad painted up as a press release it says_high thai baht a blackeye for the country's inbound tourism sector.....

This "high Thai Baht" is giving me the best return on my AUD in 8 years

AUD/THB=USD/THBxAUD/USD > that proofes that ur statement is wrong... u r just lucky that the aud/usd i making new highs. a weaker thai baht would help u a lot as well, the rate AUD/THB would explode!

It is not a question of such small differences, the British Pound has dropped 50% (a half) against the Swiss franc, i.e you could have DOUBLED your pounds in 3 years, if you put them in swiss francs.

The drop in the THB / GBP is also dramatic, we are talking about MAJOR fall in a currency, EVERYTHING in England is 30+% cheaper than 2 years ago, and if Thais reclaim the 21% VAT on purchases, we are talking about MAJOR cost savings here on luxury products

Sorry, but.. for going to Europe, nobody gives a dam_n about the exchange rate THB versus US$, but towards Euro and Pound .

And THB versus Euro is already long time between 41 and 44.

What about the Brazil Real or the Nigerian Niara ?

Sorry, wrong continent.

when i was in bangkok at beginning of last year, it was 50 baht to 1 eur, this year i got 40, a drop of 20%

but the baht is also dropping against the strong currencies, 20% drop against the swiss franc this year alone

"if Thais reclaim the 21% VAT"

Minor point, but the standard-rate of VAT just increased to 20% according to HMRC, not 21%. B)

....a stronger Bath is a real disaster for Thai economy.....and they look happy to find it cheaper going overseas......unbelievable......blink.gif

Its a disaster for many Farangs on a shoestring budget, that's for sure.

Why would you think that its unbelievable for Thai people to take advantage of a high rate for the Thai Baht ?

If itwent to 60 Baht to a USD would you be unhappy, would you find yourself being unbelievable too ?

When I first came here it was 25 baht to a USD and 38 baht to a UKP.

The Government should also be aware a stronger Baht will gradually drive away the tourist. Already i have report from Bangkok that tourist is

popularity is down. Will still have to wait for the pick season to see how it goes.

The Australian Dollar is still very high against the U.S so I guess not to many Thais will be travelling down under. At 32.68 bht for my dollar this is the best I have had in Thailand for many many years. Great for Aussies in Thailand but not to good for Aussies back home. Exports are being effected, the housing industry is in a slump along with retail and many other things. Thailand would feel the same effects if the baht gets to high against the U.S

I wonder how many Thais actually have passports.

I have just come back from Bangna where my girlfriend was renewing her passport, we got there at 11.30 and she was number 515, in and out in half an hour.

So maybe 1000 applications a day, what's that 5000 a week, and that's just at one office. OK, not a very scientific survey, loads of variables, some will be renewing, some will never travel and some will only travel to other Asian countries, but I rekon there must be loads of Thais with passports.

I wouldn't mind taking a bet that more females than males hold passports and many of those hold two passports. Should Thailand ever start to issue "3rd" gender passports they would top that list as well. I doubt there is a high proportion of Thai's with passports, I have met a fair amount of Thai's with the money but not the inclination to travel.
