I am having trouble with my linen. My maid washes my towels in my front loading,8K, eletrolux washing machine using liquid soap. She puts in liquid soap, and puts in downy fabric softener, then hangs them out to dry . The towels feel like sandpaper. I just recently started using fabric softener in the washing machine, and that helped, but not a lot, towels still rough.

Questions:

Does the amount of soap affect the quality of the wash? How much liquid soap should I be putting in the washer soap dispenser for an 8K machine?

How much fabric softener should I be using?

Does the dryer make the linen come out softer?

Do they have the softener in a piece of fabric like in the west to put in the dryer

any help will be appreciated, my linen, towels especially, feels really rough, thanks in advance

Is she putting the fabric softener in the right compartment or just pouring it in with the laundry detergent? and yes, tbh, air drying towels makes them rough.

should never use softener on towels. only thing that makes mine soft is a quick blast in a tumble dryer but in thailand our laundry lady used to steam iron them to take out the scratchiness. maybe get her to give that a try.

anything hung out to dry gets stiff as a board and scratchy stiff. we wash stuff in our washer but hang to dry; only towels and linens i send to the kibbutz laundry EXACTLY for that reason: my spoiled kids complained the the towels were itchyand rough. jeans also get hard as rocks.

wonder why that is come to think of it? we use powdered stuff and liquid softener bu t in israel the softener is not bought for it s softening qualities. here , the smell (scent i.e . heavily perfumed) is much higher on the list when someoen buys the softener then the actual softening properties since most of us hang stuff outto dry anyhow.here everyone wants the clothes to smell intensly perfumed. kills me with my allergies.

our water here is rock hard btw and i thought that was why the stuff comes out scratchy....

some online tips say using vinegar in the wash helps strip the reside of the detergent, which is what makes them stiff. also helps with lingering odors

should never use softener on towels.

As the softener leaves a fine film on the towel that makes it feel soft, but also makes the surface water resistant: nice a soft but not so good as drying the body.

Find a towel that has been dosed with fabric conditioner for a long time and you will find it floats on a bath of water.

wow, thanks for all the help. I think I will stop with my new idea of adding fabric softener and try the dryer as the first step. Will report back

We have a thai style machine [the ones where you put a water hose to supply water and a spinner for drying, you can lift the thing easily...] using cold water isn't good either.

So I add hot water to towels and shirts and steam iron them as somebody mentioned before...no softener directly on towel!

i washed as usual, some liquid soap, some softener [yes naam, maid puts them in the right spot] and then, instead of air drying I put them in the electric dryer. What a difference, towels much better. I dont like the cost of using the electric dryer but I dont like drying off with sandpaper more

I am having a big problem now though, it might be the conditioner. I am itching like mad when laying in bed, some allergic reaction that I didn't have before, I am itching like mad and cant sleep. It might be the soap or the conditioner, I am trying both now. Does anyone know if the have hypo-allergic laundry soap and hypo-allergic conditoner like they do in the west? The have so many choices of detergent but I can see one that says it is hypo-allergic

I used to mostly dry them on the line and put them in the dryer to finish them off - much cheaper (as long as you don't forget to bring them in before they're totally dry)
