We were feeding our 18 month old boy Enfalac. I read on the package that the product contains about 5% high fructose corn syrup. I urged my wife to stop feeding him the formula and give him goats milk, which we have fresh from the farm. He started to have blood in his faeces. We took him to the doctor. She said that toddlers don't have sufficient enzymes to digest goats milk, that it was making him constipated, causing small anal fissures and suggested we put him back on a formula until he is about 2 years old.

I guess we'll try and phase the goat milk back in after a few months, as no doubt it's far more nutritious than formula. But in the meantime, can anyone recommend a formula that doesn't have corn syrup, soy or vegetable oil?

Hey,

We give our 10 month old daughter Nestle Lactogen 2, after reading your post I checked the box again and it doesnt seem to contain any of the products you worry about...and its way cheaper than enfalac....

You might want to check double, maybe I missed it but pretty sure!

For many years, canola oil has been widely used as an ingredient in infant formula in Europe, but not in North America due to safety concerns. Some health organizations do not recommend use of canola oil in infant formula largely because of concerns over possible accumulation of triglyceride in heart as a result of the small amounts of erucic acid (22:1n-9) in the oil. [8] While, a few organizations in Germany compared the safety of canola versus non-canola containing infant formula from week 4 to month 7. Absolute and standardized weight and length measures did not differ between the formula groups with or without canola oil. They concluded that infant formula containing canola oil supports normal infant growth as assessed by weight and length gain. [Clin Nutr. 2011 Jun;30(3):339-45.]

Well, I take the risk... I'm from europe, she would've gotten the same formula over there.
