Can someone give me some info on how to apply for a thai passport for my daughter, if her Thai father is not present. Is it possible? My daughter was born in Thailand, she has been registered at the amphur and holds a Thai birth certificate. I am a UK mother and her father is a Thai citizen. I am no longer with her father but wish to apply for her Thai passport. I know I need to take her Birth certificate and house registration book is there anything else I need to consider and can I apply on my own without her father present or with his ID card? Moreover, I only have a copy of the blue book, I have heard that if I have two copies authorised as genuine copies this is sufficient. Can someone confirm this. Kind regards

Two questions are important:

- Where or are you married to the father? If not, the father is not the father in a legal sense, you have sole parental rights and should get a khor rhor 14 form from the amphur to proof you have sole parental rights. If maried, you will need to approval of the fahter to get a Thai paspsort.

- What nationality does it say on the birth certificate the child has? Only if the birth certificate states the child is Thai (which i presume it does, as she is on a household registration) can she get a Thai passport. If she is not listed as Thai, you first would have to file a paternity suit agianst the father to establish the child's Thai nationality through the father.

Passport application procedure is outlined here: http://www.mfa.go.th/web/473.php?id=3167

Thanks for the info,

I was not married to her father, but his name is on her birth certificate. I am not sure if this makes a difference or not. She is a Thai citizen, as stated on her birth certificate. I have not heard of the khor rhor 14 form and will look into this as well. As her father does not provide, contact or help in any form in her care and upbringing. Only contact is when he wants financial support and then I get the speech of how much he loves his daughter. If I need to get his approval I should be able to do this, would he need to come to the passport office as well? I would prefer to take copies of his documents etc and go without him.

Seems he is recognized as Thai, but you have sole custody over the child. Just follow the procedure described in the link and get the Khor Rhor 14 form from the amphur.

The link also states what to do if one of the parents can't come, (in which case he does have to sign the papers, but doesn't have to go all th way to a passport office. There are several in Thailand). But the K.R. 14 form should be enough.

Mario2008 is right, get the K.R. 14 form from the amphur first! Then go and request the passport,

Don't go there before you have the form

hello,

not sure if this helps much ,

when we went to get a passport for my thai daughter they wanted to see the father (me) and take a copy of my passport, i actually forgot to take my passport and had to go back and get it,

the kor ror 14 is a blue book i think ? maybe for a house and you can register your baby in it and it says who the mother and father are, i can't remember but i don't think it was used to get a passport ?

i asked my thai girlfriend why is it so complicated to get passport and she said if i wasn't there then not easy to get passport , i said what happens if i was dead or not available and she said have to get relavent paperwork to prove,

sorry i can't help much, i presume you will need to get something to show your not married to the father ? and maybe they will let you get one ?

i would goto the passport processing place and ask what you need,

thai passport is only 5 years so you want to do it best way so in the future you can't get another one.

best of luck

hi,

just spoken with my thai gf and she says that if the father can't goto the passport processing place then someone else like another family member or someone else like a doctor can gaurantor the application,

, maybe you can get a letter made at an amphor to show everything is genuine or maybe a doctor can write a letter etc ?

Wow, that sounds AWFULLY familiar.

BTW, I would suggest you completely ignore the previous response, as it sounds like a load of Hooey to me.

He doesn't want to support his child, but he expects you to provide for him.

He needs to grow up and learn to take some responsibility.

I wish you luck in getting your child's passport.

A blue book is the household registration.

As said, the Khor Rhor 14 form from the amphur proofs one has sole custody over the child, so no permission from the other parent is necesarry.
