Apartment - Stay Away!

Recommended Posts

Just checked out from an apartment a few days ago and have a sincere warning. They WILL rip you off on the electric bill! The stay was very good and so is the location. Everything good just turned to shit as we checked out. For three weeks stay they handed us an electric bill I have never come close to see in Thailand before. Three weeks = 3800 baht. We only used the AC at nights and didnt have any other compliances out of the ordinary going. We had loads of problem with the AC though the first week and technicians looked at it twice. I pointed this out but to no use. Interesting coincidence also that the deposit payed almost matched the electric+water bill... So heed my warning! Stay away from them!

I would have checked the units of electricity used and the rates before complaining

Where in my post do I state that I did NOT check this?

Even with a high rate the sum is ridiculous! It is impossible, with our usage, to use so much electricity during three weeks. Malfunctioning meter, malfunctioning AC (as stated before), rigged meters, some other bogus...

Either way, I hope their business suffers as they do like this. I will be making a crusade against this them and they will be getting their punishment... It is not about the money, just the principal of beeing treated fair.

Empathies extended.

Hmmm.....B3800. Could have been worse.

Thanks. As I just said, It is not about the money really but the principal.

7 baht/unit

you sure that 3800 is for electricity only and does not include water used ?

100%. As I stated before the total bill came close to the deposit of 5000.

that's about 540 units which could be excessive; but again without knowing the hp of the AC;

I am paying an average of 2200 monthly with AC running between 9 pm to 6 am in addition to a TV running at 6 am to 9 pm and a fridge and a notebook running 24/7; and 2 18W lgihts running about 4 hours a day

Ok. I pay 68% more than you for 25% less time (three weeks). Furthermore we used less appliances than you during that time.

Conclusion is, still, that I got fuc_ked pretty good!

Comes the day when hotels [example] start itemising charges for general usage that we consider to be inclusive - electricity, water, etc.

Remembering the good olds days - not too long ago - when you weren't charge for every nok-n-cranny during a hospital stay.

I don´t mind paying for what I am using. This case is about beeing ripped off. That is paying for something I have not used.

Maybe he don't pay 7 baht/unit.

Might be the case but it doesnt change the validity of the statement above.

Suppose he pays 5 baht/unit, which is very low. Then my rate is 40% higher which would mean my bill would land on 2200*1,4= 3080/month.

That is 2310 baht for three weeks and NOT taking into consideration I used less appliances and used them less time. Basically they overcharged me 61%. Ok Sherlock?
