So, I've been on a ED visa for the past 9 months, but as I don't want to renew this, I am going to switch back to a tourist visa for the final couple months I spend in Thailand. Since the last time I left the country was in Feb of this year, my departure card reads Feb. This is all ok because in my old passport my visas and 90 day check ins are all in order. However, this information will not be contained within my new passport (unless i go to immigration and xfer everything) I'm trying to avoid doing this because I'll be getting a new visa anyway.

My question is: When I go on my visa run a the end of the month, can I just bring my old and new passport with me (plus my departure card) to the airport, to show that even though my departure card is from 6 months ago, I have not overstayed?

Sorry, if this is a bit confusing...Any help is very much appreciated.

Believe on extensions of stay a visit is still required for Immigration to transfer the current stay/original visa entry information into the new passport. For those on visa entry they seem to process at point of departure with show of both passports now; but have not seen any official policy statement of this change.

Your old Passport expired the day you got a new one.

You say about 90 days, do you mean reporting at Immigration, or doing a border run?

90 day reporting at immigration..i havent had to leave the country while i've had my ed visa...which is why my departure stamp is from feb '11

So, If i understand correctly, you're saying that i still have to go to immigration to get my old visa stuff transferred to my new passport in order for them to not hit me with overstay fines right? I cant just show both passports at the airport when i leave?

After reading some more posts maybe I can clarify what I mean...

I just got ordered a new passport from the US embassy in bkk (Havent received it yet) Because I've been on an ED Visa I have not had to do border runs..only 90 day checks ins at immigration

So my arrival stamp on my departure card is from Feb '11....I'm leaving thailand this month, before my visa expires and will no longer need that visa/passport ie. i dont want to renew the visa

Do I need to have immigration transfer anything to my new passport? or Can I show both passports to the officer at suvarnabhumi when I leave and everything will be ok?

Ask the Embassy when you pick up the new passport but believe they will say yes you do and likely provide a letter to Immigration asking for it to be done (as they always have done in the past). As you have an extension of stay I would make the trip out to Immigration be sure as if airport says you can not leave until doing so it would mess up your travel plans.

I have just got a new passport also.

My visa and very last (border run) entry stamp (before my visa expired) are obviously in the old passport.

I will be going out to 'purchase' a new visa next month (Singapore/Cambodia or wherever)

I assume I will need to have at least my current stay date expiry to be crossed over to the new passport

my question is: will they make me pay to transfer a date stamp in my passport and if so how much? (I am in Phuket)

will they transfer the 1 year visa also as this is what my current stay is based upon (but that visa has actually now expired, and why I need to buy a new one next month.)

There is no charge but believe they will likely just tell you to take both passports when you exit from recent reports here of those on visa entry (although Phuket could be marching to a different drum).

In May 2011 my " O " 1 year visa was close to expire, few days before I got my new passport and went to the immigration for new " O " multiple entry visa.

Proceeder little bit funny: first the old visa was transfered in the new passport, after issued the nwe visa .... all take 3 pages of passport. Fees I not remember because I don't care +/- 1000 THB but as I remember it was near 3000 plus few thousands for multiple entry. The old immigration card was simply sticked in the new passport and I haven't any more care the old passport with me. :jap:

A visa is never transferred into a new passport by Thai Immigration so suspect you actually had a one year extension of stay from Immigration and that is what was transferred. There is no charge for that service. A stamp of old passport information and original visa information, original and last arrival stamps and a new stamp of permitted to stay is what is required and takes up one page if done carefully. Suspect you also obtained a multi re-entry permit which was your expenses of 3,800 baht.

Just returned from Phuket Immigration.

You are quite correct that they told me to simply take both passports when I exit (next month) and on my return to Thailand - I will have a new visa, so will get a new entry stamp - both in the new passport so can then put the old one away in a safe place somewhere.

So - nothing needed transferring over, but was better to check to make sure from the horse's mouth (well from the Farang Volunteer Assistant's mouth actually)

i have just done the same just get to the airport a bit earlier give both your passport to the immigration office and in 20 minutes they will put a small stamp in your new

passport saying it is the renewal of your old pasport and they will attach your departur card and stamp in the new pasport than just give both your passpaorts to the

immigration as you leave the country no problem
