Thai Police Suspect They Have Found Bodies Of 169 Missing Red-Shirts

How come its the first time we hear of 169 missing Red Shirts? Where were the inquiries from family and friends over this allegedly missing people?

Red Shirts have been going on and on over the 92 people killed during their protest, but I haven't heard a pip about any missing persons.

I think this is a bone thrown to the Red Shirts (who are keen on feeding on dead people) to keep them fired up.

Not that I'm denying the existence of the bodies, but coming out and saying that this are missing Red Shirts doesn't sound believable to me.

Depends if you think that the army consider themselves untouchable in this country, and that for the most part the media of the day parrots the line that a sitting government and army want them to parrot. It would take a pretty brave policeman, journalist and owner to have investigated this story under the last government I think. If 169 can disappear, what odds a couple more?

I find it entirely plausible that these are bodies from the riots, however, I worry that the truth now is irrelevant and the army are going to come out swinging because they will have been backed into a corner.

Too much of the recent past did not fit together but with this and I expect other revelations it is starting to. Does anybody know how many of the 2000 injured where actually injured by bullets. If this turns out to be the missing redshirts then Ashbit may have a few questions to answer and not just the two guys who were probably paid by government officials to dispose of the bodies but I guess they will be the scapegoats and charged alone with the murders. Were they two men Thai or Burmese?

The police, Red Shirt leaders and Red Shirts in Rayong have gone to Wat Klong Ta Temple to meet and talk to the abbot.

The abbot states that two men who work for a charity organisation brought in and buried these bodies here in August last year- they claimed that those abandoned bodies were from Chumporn province ( the south).

"I never saw the condition of those bodies- they just told me these were just the human bones wrapped in white fabric and put inside the coffins. Those coffins were carried inside by the lorry and they used the excavator to dig a hole and buried the bodies - those 72 bodies were all men."

The police then went to Wat Huay Yang temple- the abbot says the same things as the abbot from the first temple- he also took the police to see the graveyards in his temple and other temple called Wat Samorplong- the number of bodies altogether are 169.

The police say they will investigate whether these bodies are Red Shirts who mysteriously disappeared from the demonstration last year or not.

Presumably he would have consulted with his client before releasing such a potentially controversial story?

Really?????? Please do tell. How do you know this for sure, were you there? Did the internation media want to leave and then they were shot also. This is more of the pot calling the kettle black. Those that came to Bangkok to terrorize the people and the government in order to get their way call those, the government that tried to stop them terrorists. It seems in politics these days that if you call somebody else something you are it makes it right and justifies the actions. If a fisherman found a skull or two in his net, would he tell anyone? How many fish would he then be able to sell? The SW fishing industry took a big hit after the tsunami because people were reluctant to eat fish that might have been eating the victims. Ghosts and all that crap.

How is the DNA going to work in this case? I bet those involved in the burial would have forgotten what happened. In the end, I don't see much progress in this case besides the fact that the 169 bodies might be one of the propaganda tools.

No. they were not resurrected. Rather, the police were acting on allegations that had been circulating for some time. If there are a sufficient number of bone fragments available, DNA samples can be taken. This is how the Bosnian genocide was investigated. Specialized technicians and anthropologists exume the bodies. If Thailand does not have the expertise, then the Dutch, Canadian, Israeli and Swedish governments have many people that do.. As I recall, the Bosnian war crimes investigators asked for and received volunteers from the aforementioned nations' medical examiner offices.

If there are bodies, it should be investigated. Let the police investigate first please.

The Thais do not have the expertise or desire to do detailed examinations of corpses, hell just look at the number of farang deaths here per annum, death is cheap here really cheap nobody will really give a dam_n so little chance of outside help being requested. The main point though is how could the BIB make money persuing this.

169 people in a mass grave is by any standards disgraceful. This needs proper investigation and the dead need to be identified which in this day and age shouldnt be too difficult. This is not about reds and yellows or whatever else. It is about humanity and democracy. Another great day for the Nation's reporting.

First off they say that it is suspected Red Shirt bodies that were brought to the temple for disposal last year, NOW they report that the Abbots say the bodies were Tsunami victims from Chumphon. If that is the case presumably the bodies have been "kept on ice" since 2004 and then someone decides to transport these bodies around April last year to the temples burial grounds in the east?!

Have some humanity man. If this is as claimed there are going to be a whole group of people from and associated with the last government who wont even be able to find a country to run to. Lets honestly hope it isnt, but proper investigation is needed to explain this. Glib statements by abbots who cant produce paperwork or bureaucratic officials not trusted by half the country are not going to convince anyone.
