Your Impressions On Gay Saunas

As for me,I have been so far to 3 saunas in Europe. The first one was the largest in Amsterdam,as we call here"meat factory".I was very scarred to see how bold guys are in there to get naked in front of everyone. Then I was nearly raped couple of times because it was bedtime, and i was very tired(I was brought in by my best gay friend and I had no choice).I found a comfy booth to sleep in and many guys forced the door and finally when they saw that it was not my intention they went to report it to the manager who came and kicked me out.

The 2 other times was in Paris, well, the French were more polite, they didn't force me and tried to look in my eyes before taking ACTION.I've heard of the 7th wonder of Babylon in Bkk,but never ever put my feet in there,as I find them all not really personnal. One of my former best friend loves it soo much that he can bear 5 guys in a row every sunday afternoon.I personnally find it just disgusting, not that I'm against making love, but I'm against that system of standing in line and yelling at the customers"next"like in America.

This is only my personal impressions. Now,if others find saunas real kool,I have nothing against you,so sorry but I have no intention to hurt or criticize anybody who thinks diferrently.

I'd like to have your own impressions on saunas.

Do you like it or not?

What goes on in "Dark Rooms" oft-found in gay saunas?

Is that where one goes for a snooze, or to play' blind-man's buff' ? Or 'hide and seek'?

Just don't take me wrong. The sauna in Amsterdam was the very first I'd walked in.My friend and I had been to a weekend in Amsterdam, and it turned out that he found a guy in a bar and they both decided to go taking Action in the sauna, and I had no choice other than following them.We just stayed for one night in Amsterdam and we had no hotel room, and this was the very first time I experienced a gay sauna and had no idea of what it could have been lol.

Of course,it was not in my attention to get there to sleep over night lol.

There's (allegedly) a nud_e male disco in Pradiphat Road, Phahonyothin 15, called Farose, where by the end of the evenings frolics, the dance floor is slick and slippery with sperm, as people are quite literally pulling their puddings and buggering each other whilst boogying.

As this is now the second time you have regaled our impressionable viewers with this florid imagery, Moog (embellished more squalidly this time, however) I must assume you have more than a passing familiarity with the place, or at least an unhealthy obsession. I don't go to places like that, but I'd advise you to be sure you're practicing safe sex, avoid kissing, and perhaps seek counselling for sexual addiction.

In the few gay saunas where I've visited, I find it fascinating that so much of it is done in dark or steam-filled rooms. Am I the only one who wants to see who I'm touching? And the silence; oh, you're not allowed to talk, to even say, "Yes, I'd like to do A and B, but not C or D - and how about youuuuuu?" It's as if they're too ashamed, like the monkeys "see no evil" and "speak no evil" even though they frolic like monkeys who say "do evil!"

Ok.. in an attempt to keep this post on-track and not get hi-jacked.. I've deleted 12 worthless entries. I KNOW the topic is just WAY too tempting for some, and I know the topic may seem weird to some not in the gay world.. BUT the OP is posing a reasonable question. It's not pornographic or illegal.. so please go ahead and add RELEVANT comments please.

My own gay sauna experience is in the US. (Nope, I haven't been to Babylon - I must be the ONLY gay man in BKK who hasn't, but there we are..!)

Those who know me know that I am VERY picky when looking for a "companion"... for some just about anything with a pulse will suffice - NOT for me. :o They MUST be my type.... Therefore I cannot be doing with Dark Rooms where you have no clue who is about to have playtime with you. I agree with PeaceBlondie.

Consequently, I have almost always come away from the "sauna experience" very frustrated - that my "type" is either not in there.. OR my type is not interested in me (a frequent occurance.)

Now, I don't even bother.

There was one thing I noticed, in the upstairs area of the gay sauna in Chiang Mai, House of Male. I've been interviewed in the hallway before going into one of those private rooms. And I've done some interviewing myself. Can they speak some English, are they looking for long term or short term, what do they want us to do, etc. One guy interviewed me for maybe ten minutes, then suddenly we were in the room doing things. I must have passed the interview.

Oh, and I met my long term Thai partner there. His second sentence was, "Are you looking for boyfriend?"

Wow ! Way to go Peace Blondie!

Was the interview like....

"Where do you see yourself in five years?"

"Can you describe how your experience fits with the proposed role?"

"What are your worst qualities?" *

(*'i'm a workaholic' is the best answer for this one)

BambinA,

I know that my thread is shocking for straight people but I think that for most straights, they can hardly imagine such things could exist on earth!!!Even if I've heard of some orgy parties with straights but they are so hiden and you gotta have a membership card to be able to walk in.Not like gay saunas which are soo commun in the gay world!!!

Of course, the 3 times I've been to saunas was not in my intention. My gay friends took me in there and I was shocked to see how many attempted to put their hands on you without asking your permission! You can always say as one English guy told me on the first time"hey honey, but you are here for it".

Also,I don't feel confortable with getting naked in front of everyone,as I'm not self-confident with my body.Plus, like ChrisP,those who are my type are not interested in me,and I just don't want to end up in the darkroom lol

The_Mooq,

Keep swirling around the butterflies :-))(I like your sense of humour)

Ok ChrisP :-))

I have to admit that the second time was another coincidence,as I found that guy online and we went to the sauna the nearest my home as he and I were not able to house any of us.Plus,it was much cheaper than taking a hotel. But the third time, another friend(not bf)dragged me in because you see,my surrounding is kinda special when it comes to hang out or chill out with them, the first sentence they start is"let's go to the gay village"or"let's go to the sauna",so I didn't see myself chilling out in a café solo while others going to do their business.

ChrisP: Thanks for cleaning up the drivel and getting the thread back on track!

I have visited many Saunas, most often referred to as "bathhouses" in the U.S., and have found that they offer varying degrees of respectability and each has a character of its own.

Babylon, in my opinion, is the best of such establishments I have seen worldwide and well worth a visit for a gay man or a curious man.

It has a pool area that closely resembles a pool area in any respectable hotel with no showing of genitalia.

It has a gym of high quality with no overt sexual behaviour.

It has rooms that can be used for short term encounters and the doors lock from the inside.

It has an elegant restaurant that you can eat in with only your towel as covering.

It has a dark room.

It has legitimate massage of high quality.

It has a hotel for longer stay guests.

It has ouside jacuzzi .

It has conversation areas with tables for having a drink and conversation.

It is very clean and most contemporary in design.

While I am sure there are men who plunge into a dark room without a care in the world with whom they might have sex with, most that I have seen linger on the outside of the dark room until they see someone who attracts them and then closely follows that person for a completely dark encounter with that person.

Some men, for many reasons, want a completely anonymous encounter that only can be achieved in a completely dark room. Such a person can only be approached in a completely dark room as described above.

People who are ashamed of their bodies likewise find the dark room hides what they consider unattractive physical attributes.

There is no question that men with very good bodies, like men with very handsome faces, have their pick of the "crowd" in most cases and the least attractive can get annyoying in their persistence in trying to "trap" one of the demi-gods or one who doesn't reciprocate their attentions.

There are many looks, body positions and behaviours that telegraph many messages among the men on the prowel for an encounter. The great advantage is that due to the anonymity, a quck break away is possible, if everything is not up to your wants.

As the hour grows later, a bath house is no different than a gay bar, the "desperate hours" take over and what was once an aloof unapproachable stand off becomes very available as the prospect of leaving at closing without having had sex becomes a probability.

Communter hours have their devotees as well, as there are many marrieds that go to a bathhouse for a "quickie" before returning home to their LTR. This is especially true for those in a LTR that are not getting what they want sexually from their partner.

I have found that these LTR guys make great love as they are accustomed to "love making" as opposed to "raw sex" in its baseist form.

Like in most things in life, it is up to the individual who is in control of himself and his body, to partake in what a bath house has to offer to the level and degree he chooses.

I found a LTR of over five years in a bathhouse and many two and three year ones as well. A bathhouse is a very honest place where you see what you are getting physically and don't have to go through dinner, drinks and a lot of pretentions small talk as a pre-condition to having an enjoyable sexual experience.

For those who are shy about their bodies, I guarantee you that no matter how bad you might view your body to be, you will enounter a "worse one" whenever you choose to go visit babylon. Of course, there is "eye candy" as well.

I was once turned down by a hunky Marine for an eighty year old man with arms that had skin hanging down like venetian shades. There is someone for everyone.

Been there in Sydney on ANZAC day lots of military guys LOL, I cant believe I am actually writing this he he but hey I'm tempted and had a great time :D

There are darkrooms (not pitch black cuz they have dim lights and tv screen lighting the rooms)with lots of cubicles and video showing "movies" in each cubicles. I opened a door and saw two guys doing it lol, when i saw them i cant stop laughing for some reason. It's too embarassing to see real live thing on your virgin eyes he he. It is located near Darling! harbour.

The other is a "video" shop near haymarket, in the main TV room they showed straight XXX video, I was told str8 guys often visit there to watch video and "have a little fun" with the gays...lol. :o

When I was in my 20's the thought of going to a sauna wasn't very appealing. Now, as I reach 40, I really enjoy going. I've always been lucky, in that, I never have problems meeting guys for sex when I want it. But that said a sauna is a convienient place to meet guys if that's what you are looking for. Unfortunately, there's not one where I now live but my life doesn't revolve around a Sauna. There are many other places to meet guys. A sauna is not a place to go and feel ashamed no matter how you look. Just go and have a nice relaxing time, don't have to many expectations on who you want to meet or what you want to do and don't get carried away in the moment and do something you might regret later

I have been to Babylon many times. It is one classy place. The decor is sumptous.....very upscale. The restaurant is amazing (even though everyone is just in a towel. Babylon is a nice place to have a few drinks, listen to a torch singer, talk to some interesting people, and have a real traditional non sexual massage.

Forget everything you know about gay saunas. This is like an upscale country club which happens to have some 'iinteresting' areas to experience if you so desire. If you don't, your experience at Babylon will still be special and worthwhile.

I just can't find any 'normal' saunas in BKK without checking into the Grand Hyatt or something, so I went to Babylon as it was the only one I had heard of.

I was impressed by the grandure of the place, must have cost a few quid - anyway, you pay bt220 and you walk through a poolside bar after changing and donning your towel and it's actually a pitch black steam room/maze which can be quite frightening at times and I almost banged my head on a couple of the curved corners.

Your mind plays tricks on you and occasionally you will bump into somebody which is usually ignored but can call for a swift move on if they are an invisible hulk who is stood in your way - it's not a place where I wouldlike to pass out, which is certainly possible given the heat, and in places thewater on the floor scolds your feet.

I have never been afraid of gay people and other than the odd grope I was left alone and made it safely through to the other side of the circular underground room which has plenty of, fortunately, private shower booths.

Following the terquoise glow descending to the jacuzzi was not a pleasant experience and open minded and almost impossible to shock as I am, I was not comfortably watching the young Thai man sat on the shelf with the huge, aged, western man with his head in between his legs... My first thought was the water I was sitting in and I made straight for the showers again.

There is an 'actual' normal sized sauna that has a screen playing gay porn which didnothing for me, I wanted to be shocked, I was curious to see what it was like and it's just a big orgy where promiscuous gays go to do as they wish.

Most of the gay community, not all - I'm not tarbrushing, seem far more promiscuous than females - I assume this is just the nature of the male.

Any straight man wishing to have an eye opening experience should go if they are brave enough to handle it, be reassured that the irony of being in a building with 300 naked men isthat it is unlikely they will hassle you and you don't get what you don't look for.

I would not want to go again, not alone anyway, but at least I left there without any that I was a ladies man.

A good way to test the mental age of your peers is to tell them of your experience and test their reactions, and think yourself lucky you can look fearlessly into any world, immune to society's playground and add another unique experience to your list.

Good post GC, I'll take my hat off to you as i'll admit that you would never get me in there. A sauna with gays in no problem but with the oral/ groping stuff going on... No thanks, Same goes for a man sitting in a sauna and a bird sucking him off. No thanks, theres a time and a place for that. (or at least in a cubicle behind a curtain or something. :o

There were also high class cubicles upstairs with ominous sounds coming from within, and the whole experience was rather surreal, but I felt like I had truly entered another world, and in a way it was quite liberating and I wasn't at all self conscious.

None of the guys gave me any hassle, though in the steamy darkness I was felt up and even had my backside slapped as I went past, but you just move on and I couldn't complain, it was my curiosty to go - but it did do wonders for my skin and I got a free condom and pack of shower gel in the locker which I kept as a souveneer. :D

I wasn't worried before going that it would make me gay but I have to admit I was a little dissapointed that it didn't; because being gay would solve a lot of my problems, but at the end of the day you can't make yourself be something you're not.

I had to leave by 9pm to meet Blake 7 and Butterfly in Nana so I went from one extreme to the other. :o

But I can finally say that I was 'gay for a day' ! - Remember that post?

And Ijustwannateach thought I was just another small minded, scared homo taking the piss, didn't you Steve. :D
