Anyway, Thai gold is usually 96.5% pure gold although some shops sell 99.99% as well.

Where to buy: everywhere for the jewelry, meaning every gold shop is OK. Very strictly regulated and organized. Same price everywhere, see website.

For gold bars, coins and other 99.9xx stuff they say that Chinatown BKK is the right place.

As already mentioned basically you can buy at any Goldshop because the prices are the same.

That said however by far the most popular - and reputable - Goldshop amongst Thais is Tang Hua Seng. They have 3 or 4 shops in Yaowarrat - the one I use is on the corner of the Soi where the old Cathay Department Store is located, just opposite Thanon Mangkorn. They also have a branch in Seacon Square and maybe others I don't know about.

All buying is done in Cash by the way - and you will be amazed at the piles of Baht 1,000 notes being passed around like so much ordinary paper.
