Living and working in SE Asia isn't for everyone. Best stay home and lock the doors.

thedistillers
So you were robbed once in Kuala Lumpur, therefore it's not safe and you need 324982394834 bodyguards. K.

Stay the hell out of northern vietnam, worst experience of se asia in my experience.
TheMrs
I grew up in one of the crime capitals of the world and know what it is to constantly live in fear and on the edge. I have also lived in one of the safest countries in the world and know what it feels like not to have a worry in the world. And then there is Malaysia. I agree regarding crime in Malaysia Personal assault is a very real, very big problem, so are robberies. What an eye-opener in all honesty as we certainly didn't expect the level of crime we experienced and witnessed living in Malaysia. I guess it takes living in Malaysia for an extended period AND working amongst all echelons of the society to fully comprehend the extend of the problem.
