Where Can Bangkok Resident See Cnn Domestic? (Not Cnn International)

Can anyone suggest a few options in Bangkok (like a quiet hotel bar or business center) where one can briefly watch CNN, the U.S domestic version (not CNN International)?

I want to watch a one hour feature report by Dr. Sanjay Gupta called "The Last Heart Attack" which will only be broadcast on the U.S. domestic version within the next week. (an establishment which use the satellite broadcast rather than cable)

I believe it's quite difficult to pick-up CNN domestic on any such satellite systems worldwide - as there's just a market for it. CNN Int'l and their affliates tend to fill the void.

I don't believe any such Thai-based satellite/cable systems carry CNN American, but one can find the domestic version from other satellite offerings such as JSAT et al which are easily accessible in Thailand [hook-up and all].

When in doubt, CNN domestic can be accessed online streaming - live real-time.

CNN International often carries CNN US programming (e.g. AC360, The Situation Room, the excrutiating Piers Morgan) and has already broadcast the "Last Heart Attack" (last night). It's bound to be repeated at least 100 times, like everything else.

It sounds like the OP is visiting, rather than resident, so installing a satellite system doesn't sound like his likely approach.

Last time I checked, CNN U.S. was streaming some of their content live on the Internet...but not all. And then is making video podcasts available after the fact...

One good online source for CNN and other U.S. news content is here.

You might also check here in a week or so on Dr. Gupta's transcripts web page for his shows...

That streaming site is great! I have a PVR with True now, so record the shows rather than trying to catch them live...plus, you can skip through the commercials. Will have to get some software that can do the same with these streams.

Thanks!!!!!

Yes, it is... and I'd say...a must have for any American living abroad who wants to keep up with cable TV news from home...

I was listening to CNN (via a radio app on my phone in my car this morning) and they were advertising that show. If you can't watch it at least you can listen to it.

You've saved me a bunch of money! If we ever meet, beers are on me!

I petty much only watch BBC or CNN on TV. Everything else I download. But I love my PVR (well, put up with it's flaws). I found some software called Replay Media Catcher, which I just purchased. It can schedule recording of streaming video. So...I've got it setup to record my CNN/BBC shows automatically. It also automatically converts the .flv to .wmv so I can put the media on a stick and just plug it into my TV and watch it there. Not as good quality as True, but this saves me almost 2k Bath per month. A big deal!

With my downloads, bittorrent has a scheduler also. So I limit downloads automatically when RMC is recording, and I don't get stuttering videos. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks so much for getting me going on this. :jap:

Glad to be of service....

I dunno who's behind it or how exactly it's arranged... It seems to be related to people who used to offer the same news content streams via Justin.TV....

But as long as it's there and continues to work, it's great... And it also has the advantage of not being a blocked site, unlike some other streaming sites....

The other more official TV news network aggregation site is Livestation.com. They have the BBC and some others, but not U.S. CNN as part of their free content.

Craig...maybe you can return the favor... I've seen Replay Media Catcher that you mentioned above in the past...but never really focused on it...

I don't have any need to SAVE streams I watch... BUT, the scheduled recording feature looks very interesting... because much of the prime time U.S. content is aired at hours when I'm not available to watch live here in LOS....

I looked at their web site...and found the info in their user guide on Scheduled (time) recordings...

http://www.applian.c....php#scheduling

How much have you done with scheduled recordings using that program, and how's your experience been with it???

Also does it work with User ID/password protected sites, assuming you have those? Or only with open, no ID/password sites?

Also, a lot of video streaming web sites start with the video in a small player window, and then you have to click to expand that to full stream. If you do a schedule recording via RPM, do you have the ability to somehow choose the full screen version?

I also saw some user comments in the CNET download site for that program, that claimed it was incompatible with certain video sites such as Netflix and Hulu... although those aren't ones I'd have any interest in recording anyway...

For me, it would be kinda cool to pick one or two of the network news channels, and then just automatically schedule some part of their primetime schedule each day... and then watch at my own convenient time.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I've setup CNN to record every day at 9am as I like Anderson Cooper. I then record every day BBC news at 4pm. And CnnGo every wednesday. Just started using it today...worked great for today at 9am. I'm waiting for the next schedule. So...brand new with this. But so far so good!

Another really interesting concept that I haven't reviewed that much is boxee. I downloaded it, but haven't played around with it that much yet. Seems to be a great concept, but a bit light on the more interesting content...need to research the plugins before making a decision.
