8 Billion Baht Sought For TAT's 'Miracle Thailand' Campaign

I think that TAT needs a farang advisor. First off the word miracle is in essence a religious term, and it is absurd to use it in an advertising campaign. Second of all, I think the 8 billion baht would be better spent to stop scams, that would yield them much better results in the long term....

A farang advisor!!! I beg to differ, what on earth for? no reason at all to employ some dumb foreigner when know it all.. don't believe me? True's monthly programme schedule magazine is my proof.whistling.gif

'Miracle' is a very risky word to use in any promo . Farangs dont believe in miracles so who told TAT to use it ?

Part of the initial process in marketing is to analyse your market. This would involve demographic analysis, key market assessment and (in the case of international marketing) cultural differences. Once you have this information you are ready to start working on the concepts. With the concepts in place you try to divide the information into your marketing areas (point of sale, customer direction, etc). With these areas worked out you can start to build your integrated marketing solution to provide your potential customers with a smooth transition from initial curiosity through to loyal brand customer.

In Thailand you say "Hey You!"

Thirdly, shouldn't it be Miraculous Thailand? I mean, it is being used as an adjective here. They should probably use the adjective form of the word. Or maybe they are going for cute-sounding Thaiglish... :whistling:

Not to mention that Thais will have a hard time pronouncing the word "miracle" given that Thai doesn't have a final "L" sound. The Thai letter equivalent to "L" is pronounced like an "N" when it is final, as in the way Thais pronounce the word "central" in "Central Plaza" (i.e. "sen-TRAN pla-SAA"). They would pronounce "miracle" like "mi-ra-KAN" if it is transliterated the same way that "central" is.

Even "miraculous" has this problem, as the Thai letters equivalent to the letter "S" are pronounced like a "T" when final. Think the Thai word for bus, "rot-bat", where "bat" is the word "bus" transliterally (don't get me started on the vowels).

With things like more strict visa requirements, crackdown on sex tourism, people dying in hotels from unknown causes, farangs being murdered, scams and the list goes on, I hardly think they will need 8 billion baht to promote the Miracle Tag. The way it is going I think it will be a miracle on it's own if people still come. A 30% increase in people arriving at swampy, how many of these are actually staying in Thailand and not getting connecting flights to other parts of Asia and the world?

These figures are doctored, to an extreme extent. None of the arrival, occupancy, retail, or other economic figures are reliable, when the media is ranked 150th, of 182 countries on the international journalists report, due to excessive censorship, and non-stop military interference in the way the government is run. I would guess there were not two policies put forth during the Abhisit reign, that were not approved by the pig generals. The media is not permitted to question much, and there is little, or no accountability. They can say anything. A friend of mine suggested "amusing thailand". It kind of says it all.

Sadly the Thais have got their grammar all wrong - again! It should be Miraculous Thailand. Seeing some of the "unusual" application of English words on menus, signs etc brightens my day, but to see it used incorrectly by a Government Department, especially Tourism, whose bread and butter are foreign tourists is inexcusable. Perhaps asking advice would loose face, but on the other hand they just end up looking silly .

They've tried a few times to chenge the Amazing Thailand slogan but it has never worked.

This new one has obviously been thought up by non-native English speakers. It's not gramatically correct, it doesn't have a ring to it and doesn't seem to have any real meaning.

Someone has been paid a lot of money to come up with this.

At least Amazing Thailand was an accurate slogan; the term is often used on Thaivisa!

8bn baht, 30m tourists???? Let's see.

According to the BKK Post

"Today, sentiment in the tourism sector has clearly improved after the July 3 election. So we need more strategic campaigns. The Miracle Thailand campaign is a big celebration to support the key theme: Amazing Thailand Always Amazed You," Mr Surapol said.

So, not a replacement.

Must be nice to ask for an extra $100M (2012 budget was 5.5 BN baht) for what? And, I don't know anyone outside of TAT that believes they will have 19 million foreign tourist arrivals this year. Getting to 30 million during a global recession will be some feat. But, since no one checks what TAT says, the target will most likely be surpassed.

One of the activities is going to be a game called, "Find the Casino!". Thai police are allowed to enter the competitions, but they are not expected to win any prizes. The awards will be presented by the Chief of Police, who will no doubt make comments, such as: "Well I never! So many casinos within 200 metres of police stations?"

Heheheh... I like this one...

BTW, I think the 8 bn budget probably includes paying legal expenses for the former TAT governor and her problem about the film festival kickbacks.... That should cover about 4 billion of the 8 billion, I'd say.... :whistling:

Amazing Thailand. I had to look in my calender if i´ve missed that it is 1st April today! There will never be a more perfect slogan for Thailand than Amazing Thailand. I have always loved this slogan and now it will soon be gone. To change this perfect slogan to "Miracle Thailand" sounds to me like the stupidest idea TAT has ever had. Wishing to spend 8 Billion Baht on this project is just as stupid, and can only be because some of the big bosses in TAT are (again) hoping to let some money fall into their own pockets.

What miracles are Thailand expected to provide, in order to attract 30 Million tourists to Thailand each year?

Are they planning to clean up the country and the polluted water surrounding the country?

Are they planning to do something about the extremely poor hygiene standards in this country?

Are they planning to fight the massive corruption?

Are they planning to get rid of the double pricing system?

Are they planning to get rid of the Tuk-Tuk and Taxi mafia, and force Taxi´s to use the meter and accept to actually take you where you want to go?

Are they planning to get rid of the Jet-ski scam´s and all other scam´s this country welcome tourists with?

I think that you have just hit on the best new advertising slogan for Thailand. " Hey You !" has a nice ring to it and is quite unique -- maybe better value for all the money that TAT wants.

I can see it going even farther: "Mili-kan Thai-ran!" It's a miracle if they don't ALL run!

to be honest the whole of TAT needs a shack up, no one there seems to know anything about the visiting tourists

my suggestion would be for the TAT to have a panel of Forigners made up of each major country that visits thailand to assist with these dumb campaigns and to advise ' hey this is a load of <deleted> and that is what peope will think ' before speding 8 billion THB .... also to be able to address the real problems Tourist face when coming here

.. and for starters just have an intelligent look at all of the concerns expressed here.

it will be a miracle if anyone comes here based on the advertising produced by these morons

the last campaign featured some brit chav looking tosser, covered in tattoos, in a Singha wife beater, wearing his battered baseball hat back to front

when asked what he thought of Thiland you would not have been surprised if he had said, ''its great you can get cheap drugs here''

the mere image of him would be enough to turn away any good business

TAT should look at the Malaysia-Truly Asia campaign

now theres quality tourist advertising that actually makes you want to go there................

And to kick it off lets make it harder for the tourist by insisting on pre booked accomadation with their tourist visas.

Yes and make it harder and harder for us ex pats to stay, who spend anything from 30.000 - 60.000 bath every month of off season or not. But I guess we are only small flies and not tolerated any longer.

Thailand is value-for-money, compared with Vietnam or Cambodia or Laos ? It takes a 'Miracle Thailand' to turn expensive into value-for-money !

I don't know what happened to my post! It was eloquent.

But basically you can compare Thailand with Malaysia, or Singapore or maybe Vietnam or to a lesser extent Cambodia. But not Laos. It might be cheap but that's it.

Sexy-time Thailand (with Borat as the voice-over)?

Great success !

My sister, she number 4 prostitute Kazakstan before she move to thailand.

We just need to photoshop in a couple of Thai bargirls and everything is done. Just pop down Panthip to get that done and we'll split the THB 8,000,000,000.

Amazing Thailand -- It's a Miracle anyone comes to Thailand for a vacation any more. Rip-offs, Scams, Corruption, Xenophobia, two-tiered pricing, unmetered taxis...etc., etc.... :ermm:

I'm sure this new campaign will provide ample cannon fodder for this forum for awhile. "Hey you -- where you from? Tuk-tuk. I take you to see laying Buddha...big swing...palace. Just $30!" <_<

It's a miracle if some scam artist doesn't make the unsuspecting Farang tourist part with his money. :jap:
