Cat Best Way To Terminate Contract

Recommended Posts

I would like to cancel my CAT telecom contract in 4 months after 11 months of service, any suggestions pitfalls to avoid.

I am a bit reluctant to call them far in advance as I am afraid they disconnect the service right away...

Thanks!

Just go to a CAT office when the time is right.

Take your contract number with you if you have it.

I did this when I cancelled my CAT aircard and had no problems.

They will give a termination receipt.

Shouldn't be an issue although you may be on the hook for any freebies/installation costs. Heck, about three years ago I canceled a TOT 2Mb ADSL internet 12 month contract after only 6 weeks due to very slow speed/many disconnects. All I had to do was give back the free modem and pay a 1000 baht early termination fee.

Thanks for all the advice!

I can either cancel my contact after 11 months or pay the last month. Does someone have specifics? I pay 1658 baht per months for 2mb up 1 mb down....

THanks!

To cancel any subscription in Thailand just stop paying and they will disconnect you:)

On a serious note: just go to their office, cancel your sub and request them a receipt which shows the data when canceled etc.! Last time I canceled my True ADSL connection they didn't give me any proof that I canceled. Of course later on the connection was still working when actually should not according them telling me which date it would stop. I went back to their office and they told me that it could be that there will be a last bill with some rest payment. On that I told them that last time I already paid for the date until I told them to stop the connection on which at that time they acknowlegded. So now I told them (friendly but firmly!): I will not pay any baht anymore, since for me it was a closed subject. Then their answer on this was, ok now everything is fine sir, have a nice day B)

You also may want to time your cancellation whether within or outside the 12 month contract period in order to get max use of the final month or max credit on the final month.

A couple examples:

(1) recently I canceled my TrueVisions DSTV (satellite) subscription because I had just switched to TrueVisions CATV (cable). I canceled the the DSTV the day after getting the CATV installed....cancelled the DSTV on the 20th since the CATV installed on the 19th. Since TrueVisions bills come early in the viewing month, the billing cycle runs 1-31 of each month, and you usually have to pay for that current viewing month by the 24th, I had already paid the bill for the month around the 10th. I paid at the normal time since the install date of the CATV was still wishy-washy. Now did I get any credit/refund back for the full month of DSTV I had paid for although canceling approx two-thirds of the way through the month on the 20th...the answer is no. The DSTV subscription still worked until the end of the month and died on the 1st of the next month. So, apparently when you pay for one month of TrueVisions service even if you cancel only a few days later, well, no refund on the unused portion of the month.

(2) I also recently canceled my TOT 6MB ADSL plan since I had just got TrueOnline Cable internet. So, since I had just experienced the no credit/no refund for canceling approx two-thirds of the way through the month with TrueVisions, I decided I would wait until approx 3 days before the end of my TOT ADSL plan billing cycle and then cancel...that 3 days before part was just to play it a little safe in case they can't immediately cancel the service the same day...like they have to send the cancellation paperwork to another TOT office that may take a couple of days. I just wanted to avoid the cancellation not occurring rapidly enough which might actually squeak over into new billing month. But as it turns out TOT "immediately" canceled the subscription, internet was not working by the time I got back home, and in the closing bill for that month that I got a few weeks later I got a 3 day credit on the normal monthy amount. If I had known (or asked) how TOT handles the final monthly service/bill, I would have cancelled a few weeks earlier....but I made the mistake they would handle it pretty much the same way as TrueVisions and charge for the "entire" month.

So each company probably has different rules on exactly how a cancellation will work and how the final monthly bill with be handled.
