Thawil takes one-week leave

By The Nation

Thawil Praisont, ex-secretary-general of the National Security Council, took one-week leave Friday after he reported himself to work in a new position as an advisor to the prime minister.

Thawil, who was removed as the NSC chief with a Cabinet resolution on Tuesday, reported to work at the Government House at 8:40 am.

Thawil said he reported to work with Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana and submitted his leave form.

"I have never taken an annual leave for 20 years now," Thawil told reporters.

Thawil said he would file a complaint with the Merit System Protection Commission to appeal against his transfer as soon as possible.

"If possible, I may file the complaint on Monday, September 12," Thawil said.

He complained that Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung has made unfair comment against him that he had to be removed because he had been given the post improperly.

Thawil said he has been gradually promoted until he reached the top of the NSC because he had worked for the NSC for 30 years and did not cause any problem to anyone with his promotion.

Thawil said the Kowit has not yet assigned any responsibility to him but he expected that he would be assigned to work on security affairs.

Transport Min orders BMTA to consider acquiring new buses

BANGKOK, 9 September 2011 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport has instructed the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to draw up a plan to obtain new buses for replacing old ones while expecting the matter to be concluded within this month.

In place of a number of existing buses that have been in use for longer than 18 years and are in bad conditions, Deputy Transport Minister Police Lieutenant General Chatt Kuldiloke has assigned BMTA executives to mull over the acquirement of new vehicles. All related details are to be discussed among the executives, including how many buses are needed, how many of them should be purchased and leased and also how many should be open-air and air-conditioned.

Initially, the Transport Ministry sets the ratio between buses with and without air conditioners at 50-50 while the BMTA needs to draw a conclusion on the bus acquirement plan by the end of this month.

According to BMTA Director Opas Phetmunee, the BMTA currently has 3,506 buses in total, 1,659 of them are air-conditioned and operate on 80 routes while the other 1,847 are non-air-conditioned and run on 24 routes. The average age of the existing vehicles is more than 18 years.
