UK visit visa for wife - flight tickets
Unless the tickets are refundable, then definitely DO NOT buy before a visa is issued. A friend of mine's Thai wife was recently rejected for a UK visa and they had bought non-refundable tickets for April. He is hastily making a new application (the original application had insufficient documentary evidence). Hoping they will be succssessful this time. My Cambodian GF and I are going to Canada tomorrow. We booked flights 11 months ago, well before her visa was issued, but I selected refundable tickets - albeit not the cheapest, but with better seats and more baggage. We are hoping to go to the USA in August (visa application underway), I booked refundable tickets already that have good travel times and seat assignments in fact, I was able to use mileage for business class paying only the taxes. -

Is It Easy to Get Things Done in Thailand, or Is It Laden with Needless Formality?
I have many years with 3BB. Never had a problem with them in speed of repair work or keeping the Internet running. Can't say the save with Verizon in the US at a much greater expense. One time was down for 5 days. Just like being in a third world country but paying US prices. Don't talk about speeds either. -

Foreigner Sparks Outrage for Doing Thai-Only Job in Phuket
Sorry, just an observation. I have heard the same concerning immigrants taking jobs in my own country. Just raises a question in my mind if all countries have similar laws, I do know that anti-immigrant laws have a long history in the USA. -

The next "monkey wrench"?
People live in earthquake zones, next to volcanoes. or at risk of tsunamis. They live on the San Andreas fault. Florida has shown what a couple of hurricanes can do. Insurance companies have entire departments dedicated to risk assessment. IMO it's only equitable that people living in low risk areas should pay less than those who don't.
