Hopefully i can get the tourist visa anyway as my freind called her contact in cambodia today and said single entry will be fine but have to pay to get it blah blah

Just backing myself up in this corrupt country..

There is no three limit on visa exempt entry - but you may start to be questioned as to employment with more than that. You can not obtain any visa in Poipet. The old stay in hotel and wait for service to take passport to PP and return seem to be on hold and no firms offer now (from this weeks reporting).

Nothing is for sure i know this but i cant go back to the UK until nov/dec so i need as much info as possible if things fail.

Everything is corruptible in thailand.

Have someone who flew into Thailand on 1 September on visa exempt entry.

He has decided to stay for good.

No he didn't consider that option before leaving the UK but he has a house, wife and child in Thailand. Already has 400k on deposit in anticipation of a marriage extension application.

Obviously, he needs to get a Non-Immigrant 'O' visa sorted out before he can then apply for his marriage extension during the following 90 days.

What is his best option.

He can get the Non Imm Visa from Immigration providing he qualifies for the 12 Month Extension.

Get down to Emigration quick and he should be able to do it. 2,000 baht for the conversion to Non Imm Visa.

Not all offices will do it, He may be sent to Bangkok.

Thank you for this very helpful response. I am happy to learn something new everyday - and this was one of those. I (wrongly) assumed he would have to go to a neighbouring country to get the non-o at a Thai embassy.

Korat is the nearest immigration office so maybe a 50/50 chance !

Knowing that he can definitely get 'upgraded' at Bangkok is a help.

Thanks, LB

If you are so sure that things can be arranged through corruption then why are you bothering to post here. Just get on your corrupitble way.

Card Holder. It used to be that you had to apply with at least 21 days left on your stay.

Recently it has been changed to around a week or two. So he needs to go quick. Will probably be sent to Bangkok.

Thanks again. I will suggest wife phones Korat on Monday - they have been known to be helpful on the phone.

If not - straight to Bangkok.

Make sure they realize it is part of the process to apply for a 12 month Thai Wife Extension.

Im not sure. I stated nothing is for sure. Just cant leave thailand right now. Im not gonna be bribing anyone. Just a friend wants to help me and has a friend that has contacts. No money will be exchanged apart from money for the visa cost.

No, sorry mate, but this is a load of crap................"before i travel 6000 miles at a high cost just to get a visa that im entitled from the country i was born in just to return again. If you meet the criteria its really very straight forward and depending on what you need can either be done inside Thailand or in a neighboring country there is no need to return to the home country.

Lack of money or lack of planning is usually the cause of most visa problems.

Both Mae Sai and Chiang Khong immigration officials have stated 4 consecutive 15 day "entry permits" NOT visas and write the number above the stamp in the passport to keep track. Also, it was "hinted" to me to alternate between Mae Sai and Chiang Khong.

I was going to PM Lite Beer to hide my stupidity but I think the information may be better on open forum.

Where is the Immigration office in Bangkok ?

The Immigration Bureau site shows Sathorn but I am sure I read somewhere that for extensions etc you have to go to Changwatana.

Nope your wrong. I cant go and get the visa in surronding countries. I can only get it from the UK just showing a single piece of paper. So as i said i will have to travel 6000 miles and back just go get it very easy at a high cost though.

Mind you i might be able to get some other visa with a bit of luck. Wish me luck.

or sudden changes in rules.

This covered under lack of money.

There is no problem for a Farang married to a Thai getting a visa.

Just to close the circle on this.

My friend took the overnight bus to Bangkok and was first in thr queue at Immigration.

He was told they wouldn't do a Non-Imm 'O' because he only had 9 days left on his stamp (visa not required). However, they gave him an extension of 60 days AND said he could come back in the time period to get a marriage extension.

This is great news but, flies in the face of what I had always believed i.e. that you need a Non-Imm 'O' (or equivalent) as your 'base' visa from which you then make the extension.

Posted

I strongly suspect you are correct as a non immigrant entry is a requirement - he just obtained 60 day extension on basis of Thai wife (to visit) and that is of his exempt entry. Believe he will have to obtain non immigrant entry first at 2,000 baht before he will be allowed the one year extension of stay for 1,900 baht. But he now has the time to do this.
