Hi Everyone

I'm currently in Bangkok (Singapore passport 30days exempt),I plan to stay in Bangkok for a longer term (appox 6mths or more).I'm a freelancer, have no intention to seek for employment in Bangkok.

Could anyone help advice me what type of visa should I apply to save the trouble of travelling in/out of the country every 30days?

Your assistnace is very much appreciated.

Working in Thailand without a work permit will not be legal and a work permit would require employment by a Thai company and a non immigrant B visa entry.

For tourist stay a 2 entry tourist visa would allow 60+30 extension and another (entry made before visa expires) so almost six months stay.

Hi lopburi3

Thank you for your response. May I know

1) Can i apply the 60-days visa in Bangkok? Is there a name for this type of visa?

2) Is the approval given on the same day of application?

3) For the 30days extension, what are the procedures?

4) In between the two 60+30extension, do i have to leave the country?

5) what are the chances of approval for the 2nd "60+30 extension"? would there be any interview with the officer ?

Many Thanks ~

You have to go to another country or back to Sing. to apply for tourist visa. Check out a few of the other threads here about getting a tourist visa. Have to apply for a visa at an Embassy or consulate in home country or laos, Cambodia It usually takes two days for visa, apply one day pick up the next. The 30 day extension you go to an immigration office in Thailand submit TM7 form copies of passport departure card and I think 1900 baht, takes about 1 or 2 hours depending on immigration. Before your first 30 day extension expires make a border run and it will activate the second visa for another 60 days. No approval just cross a border and make sure they stamp you in on second 60 day visa before leaving border immigration office.

Check the other threads for tourist visa they have started enforcing requirements that where over looked in the past. Good luck

1. Apply at a Thai consulate or embassy, which are outside of Thailand

2. Depends on the consulate, most consulates in hte regionissue next working day.

3. Fill in a form at immirgation and give a pasport photo and 1,900 baht. It is issued on the spot.

4. after 60 days or 60 days plus extension you leave the country and can return the same day after having entered and exited another country first.

5. There is no interview and refusal would be very, very, very rare.

Thank you Moe666 & Mario2008. I now understand better.

If i were to do it in Penang, Malaysia, may i know:

1) what are the documents required? what's the fee?

2) how to go the Thai Consulate in Penang?

3) from Bangkok to Penang, I understand that there's an express train from Humlamphong to Butterworth, should i take this route? what other options are available?

4) how do i indicate my desire to get 60 days visa to the Thai Consulate Penang?

Should i do it in Penang? May i have your advises?

Millions thanks

From Bangkok it might be wiser to go to Savanakhet or Vientianne (both in Los), especially if you don't have prior tourist visas. But things are constantly changing, especially right now.

A tourist visa costs 1,000 baht in local curency per entry. What is needed is an application form, a passphoto, your passpor and fee.

For trip reports with a lot of tips look here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/189375-latest-reports-of-getting-a-visa-in-the-region/

Hi Mario2008

Thank you for your response.

may i know why it's wiser to go to Laos, and especially for my case? Is 60 days visa considered as one or two entry?

Many thanks...

Laos is easier to go to from Bangkok, since you don't fly but go by land transport. Besides that currently savanakhet seems to have a good reputation for obtaining a double entry.

a single entry is 60 days, which can be extended by another 30 days for 1,900 baht. A double entry is 2 entreis of 60 days, which each can be extended by 30 days. But after 60 days (plus 30 if yu extend) you have to leave the country and can come right back the same day for your second entry).
