Community Dutch Man Found Dead in Ayutthaya Hotel Room
Picture courtesy of ปลอดภัย สามหก A 54-year-old Dutch national was found dead in a hotel room in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on the afternoon of 22 June, with blood discovered in the bathtub and on the bed. Authorities are investigating the cause of death and have not ruled out foul play. Police were called to a hotel in the Hua Ro subdistrict at around 13:00, after a housekeeper unlocked room 319 and discovered the man lying unresponsive beside the bed. He was wearing only a pair of shorts and was found lying on his back with visible blood stains on the mattress. A bathtub in the room was also found partially filled with bloody water. The deceased has been identified as Mr. Ronald Delft, a Dutch citizen who had been staying at the hotel for three days. He was due to check out at midday, but when he failed to do so, the cleaner used a spare key to enter the room and made the grim discovery. Preliminary examinations revealed a deep wound on Mr. Delft’s left wrist, leading investigators to estimate that he had been dead for approximately six to seven hours before being found. Inside the room, police found bottles of liquor and soft drinks, as well as a handwritten note in English, which reportedly included contact details for his brother and the Dutch Embassy. The body was transported to Thammasat University Hospital for an autopsy. According to police, Mr. Delft had checked in alone and no signs of other guests entering the room have been identified so far. While early indications suggest the possibility of suicide, officers stressed that they have not ruled out homicide and are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are working to contact the deceased’s family and the Dutch Embassy to arrange for the repatriation of the body and the necessary religious rites. The investigation remains ongoing.
