Looking For Thai/Uk Banknote Dealers.

Hi all,

I'm back in LOS in November, my hobby is Notaphily.....banknote collecting, does anybody know of any dealers near, Loei, Udon, Bangkok or Patts? I'm looking for Thai notes but are interested in UK and other notes of good condition also, I have a great collection and can't stop buying them.....much to the dismay of my Thai wife, who can't understand why I pay 300 baht for a 100 baht note.... :-)

any info greatly appreciated.

I think it`s all about being at the right place at the right time.

In the past I have seen old coins and bank notes (always Thai) for sale at various markets. But these appear to be one off`s then the following week they are gone.

I doubt if there are any regular permantly located old currancy dealers around in Thailand.

Why not try, ebay.

Here is one link I found on ebay:

There is a mail-order banknote dealer based in Bangkok. As i've only just registered for ThaiVisa i'm not yet allowed to post a link, but the dealer is called Noteshobby and has a store on ebay.

They have a massive stock of Thai and international notes and are cheap. They mostly sell UNC condition notes.

I'm based in the UK but have ordered from them numerous times as they are often cheaper than UK dealers. I can't fault their service.

Last time i was in Bangkok i was going to contact them to see if i could visit them in person to buy notes, but never got round to it so don't know if this is possible.

Years ago i bought a few notes from stalls at Chatuchak market. They have plenty of Thai notes but not a great selection of international notes (especially UNC condition) and they can be expensive. If you are buying the older Thai notes from them you should check them carefully as the edges might have been trimmed.

Hope that helps you!

Where is JJ market?

i have a few 1 baht notes dating form 1930 to 1950's, they vary from below 500 baht to above 5000 baht, depending on condition and rarity.

thanks

Many years ago I saw a section in JJ weekend market with old notes, coins and stamps.

All Thai though.

Any idea how much a 1 Baht note would be worth?

JJ (Jatujak) and Chatuchak are the same place, right next to Mor Chit BTS massive weekend market.

This company hold an auction every three months. Usually in Bangkok, but next time in Chiang Mai because there's a stamp exhibition on there. They auction stamps, coins, notes and antiques.

Even if you don't bid, their fully illustrated catalogue makes an excellent reference guide.

click on 'AUCTION CATALOGUE' half way down the page on the left to see the details of the next auction in late October. A day or so after the auction the prices realised are printed under each lot.
