Hello,

Can the 2 witnesses needed to sign a Thai marriage certificate be farangs, or do they have to be Thai citizens? Do they have to show ID cards or passports?

I know sometimes the amphur staff will act as witnesses, but we are also signing a prenup, and I'm not sure if they'll sign that, or if they'll ask for a bribe. I'd like to be doubly sure everything will go smoothly, so I'd prefer to just bring my own. I have Thai and farang friends, but the farangs would probably be easier to track down.

Thanks,

Scott

Don't believe the rules say they have to be Thai, but of curse they must ID-themselves.

You would only need to find the witnesses in the case there is a legal problem with the validity of the marrriage, for instance if someone claims not to have given permission to marry or that there was an imposter nd not you that registred the marriage.
