I just got wind of a drift event which I believe is Sunday October 9th. The details I got were sketchy at best from someone who is volunteering at the event but has no real interest in cars. Supposedly it's a benefit event for flood victims. So far all I know is it's 300 baht entry and it's next Sunday at Seacon. I asked if it was just a track day for the locals and was told it wasn't that it was sponsored by M-150. But like I said, this is coming from someone that didn't seem to know too much about it. But I thought I'd at least put the info out there if anyone was interested. I'll be trying to get more concrete details in the next couple of days as I intend to go check it out myself.

There is indeed a small track behind Seacon, and they organize some events, especially on Sundays, so this makes sense. I have the phone number for the track if anyone wants to call for details (they don't really speak English though). Bangkok Racing Circuit: 02 721 8149

It's quite a spectacle, not much about racing but more about keeping control on the edge... To each his own really, why not look up some drift videos on youtube then decide if you might want to see the real thing?

Have already seen stuff and really not for me. Comes over as stuff for kids to watch and attract the girls (perhaps), but seems for guy's who don't want the risk of real racing. Call me an 'ol fart but that is all l can see. ;)

lol to each his own I guess... I've never tried drifting myself, but I can imagine it does require a very high degree of precision and control to keep a car constantly on the edge of spinning out... and it's pretty fun to watch, like I said it's mostly about the spectacle, tires screeching and clouds of smoke... A good analogy popped in my head, it's the figure skating of motorsports :D

That being said, I do agree with you about proper racing, that's a whole other set of skills :)

Okay, I got a little more information. The PTT drift team that will be at the event. Sunday October 9th @ Seacon from 9:00-18:00 and entry is 300 Baht. It is a benefit event like I previously stated. I can't read Thai so I had someone do a rough translation and he said they would be offering ride alongs in the drift cars. I asked a couple of times to make sure it wasn't just saying you could sit in the cars but he insisted they were doing rides in the cars. If you can read Thai you can get the info from the PTT Motor Sport page on Facebook.

Must agree with you T/A. For me just one big turn off, we get a lot of it on our local TV network at the weekend's. Really Pi//'s me off as they cut out one of the good sport's M/Racing channel's. But as said each to their own. I think your right Kid's stuff. Hold on a Mo attract the GIRL'S where can I get some ticket's.

Very nice, anyone planning to attend the event for sure? If anyone one would be willing to meet before hand and go to the event i'm itching to get more involved in the scene here in Thailand!

link to the Red Bull Thailand drift team facebook page (not that it would be to hard to search but maybe it will save someone 30sec!) http://th-th.faceboo...hailand?sk=wall

I'll definitely be going. I'm trying to get my friend's brother to go to since he likes cars but I'm not sure he's big on drifting. I just want to go to a car event. I was stateside in parts of June/July and missed out on several events. Not sure how I'll be getting there when I go but I'm 100% certain I'll be there. I'm in Sathorn now but will probably be moving to Nonthaburi in the next couple of days.

Ah i'm actually in the southern part of Nonthaburi area, give me a ring or shoot me a text when your in the area and we can figure out the best way to make the event.

haha not anything like american wrestling ;) If you're into cars i'm sure you would find a drift event entertaining. If your not into cars and there are some good drivers you'll pry also find it entertaining.

Coming from someone who drove a lot of local events back in the states and gave many many spectators ride alongs I STRONGLY recommend doing everything you can to get yourself in the passenger seat of with a good driver. Everyone i've seen step out of a drift car after their first ride along is smiling ear to ear!

The last drift related event I went to was the GT Live event in Cali and that was like what 6 years ago? I brought my former brother in law and his father in law to the event and they'd never seen something like that before. When the drivers were making their first entries sideways well above 80mph they couldn't help but feel excited. But after an hour or so their excitement had faded and I even saw one of them yawn a couple of times. So it's not for everyone. Anyway, it was posted in case someone was interested and wanted to check it out. I'm not expecting anything spectacular from this event because I don't think the location is ideal for high speed drifting but I've been wanting to go to a Thai event and this one is local, cheap, and benefits a good cause.

My hat is off to you my friend, EPIC user name! Sorry to hear it sounds like drifting just doesn't excite you though.

Yes, my user name was also my pal for over 2 decades, my avatar is my T/A. Drifting to me is on a par to blokes who have hi-fi in their ride to suit sounding a stadium, pretty naff. BUT, each to their own. :D

RWC Qtr finals, Bathurst 1000 and Japanese Grand Prix on at the weekend, which are all top notch events, so Seacon Sq does not light my fire for Sunday's entertainment. biggrin.gif

For sure, but the kids and girlies will be impressed eh. :)

As for adults, well, eeeeeeeeerm, don't know, unless they have led a sheltered life. :)

When I think of these fine adults with all of the years of wisdom under their belts and their hard earned finely tuned motorsports tastes.... Well, it brings a tear to my eye that you would take time out of your busy day to visit a thread very clearly identified as something you view as "naff" and try to impart some of that wisdom on us kids. I know you truly have our best interest in mind as you pour your feelings out to us. Which is why it really pains me to say this because I know it will sadden you...but when do kids ever listen to their elders? So I'm sorry but this Sunday when I could be watching some "real" automotive event on television I'm gonna go watch some foolish kids put their cars sideways for my amusement. Maybe I'll look at some girlies while I'm at it. But I'll always remember your words and hope that one day I'll grow up. Maybe then I can join some NASCAR forums and poke fun at them for going in circles or visit some vegan sites and post some nice meat recipes. But I'm still a kid so I haven't grown up enough to take on that sort of responsibility yet. But don't worry, I recognize you've set the bar high and I couldn't ever hope of filling your shoes but I'll do my best make sure your efforts weren't totally in vain.

Wonderful answer! You enjoy the day. biggrin.gif
