BANGKOK, Oct 1 -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Saturday hosted her first "Yingluck Government Meets the People" radio programme, outlining the government's performance during the past month while expressing worries over the flood situation in many provinces.

The programme was broadcast live for 30 minutes from 8:30 to 9 am from the Government House via Radio Thailand under the supervision of the Public Relations Department.

She told the public that the flooding problem was the most outstanding issue of the government since it had taken office in early August. The flooding started in July and the water remained at a high level because of heavy rains from recurrent storms.

The premier asserted that the government did not stay idle and had assigned authorities to speed up measures to find solutions and set up agencies to tackle the flood under the "2P 2R" policy - Preparation, Response, Recovery, Prevention.

The government had approved a budget covering various aspects to help compensate people who were adversely affected by floods while the donation from the public totaling more than Bt363 million would be used to benefit flood victims as much as possible, she said.

The government would heed His Majesty the King's advice to solve the flood crisis and would plan integrated water management projects to tackle flood problems in the medium and long term in the future.

Ms Yingluck also reiterated the implementation of the government policies on Bt300 minimum wage, rice mortgage scheme, and tax refunds for first-time home buyers. (MCOT online news)

Will there be a TV program with the audience allowed to ask questions?

Exactly why that won't be happening.

The P.M. can only do what she knows best, read from an e.mail , this is live radio, Ha

Yes give her an Aussie Q+A style and then you will find a very embarrassed woman. If this was ever to happen believe me it would be pre arranged questions and e.mailed pre prepared answers.

Anyone here happen to listen to it?

listening to about 5 minutes while waiting for a coffee in the coffee shop. Her words are really scripted and formal. She was clearly reading from a prompt, but the real question remains if it was put together by her (doubtful) and if she really means what she says. The overly formal and polite sentences just sounded like an attempt to get sympathy and understanding from listeners, and to convey this feel of needing to wait to see action, since they are so new in office, as she put it. To me, any more hot air within 5 minutes, and she would've turned into a hit air balloon.

I didn't, and anyway I don't speak enough Thai to understand it. I'll bet most of those lampooning and criticising it didn't either!

What on earth does that have to do with it?

This is a hate-thread!

I am no fan of the Prime Minister but, given that she is a political greenhorn, newbie etc, I don't expect her to be able to come out and launch into a well crafted speech from memory. Off the cuff remarks are not expected or wanted by her handlers.

It is only fair too understand that, like a computer, she has to be programmed, information has to be fed to her and she has to try to remember it all.

So many people wanting her attention and expecting a piece of the pie.

It is not surprising she may refer to a submarine having twin rotors or a helicopter being able to 'crash dive".

The lady has been dragged from a relatively private & quiet life as the head of a family organization where she could never be wrong, (or at least no-one would dare tell her she was) in order to lay the groundwork for the eventual return to power of her elder brother, an event that will not pass without major disturbances in this country.

She is the merely the temporary figurehead on the ship of state called Thailand

Meet the people over the radio??? And she studied in America? It's called vomiting the same b.s., using natural disasters to draw attention away from what they're really trying to do. I wonder who was her favorite person she met???? The guy who brought her breakfast, who still isn't getting his 300B and hour? Purely pathetic!

Is there ANYTHING you like about Thailand? Anything at all? If you are not the most negative poster on Thai Visa, you are certainly in the top five. If I hated the country as much as you do, I'd definitely leave.

For the sake of the hard of thinking please point out where this particular quote came from. Or you could admit that it's just a product of your imagination. Otherwise next thing you know this quote will be taken up by the aforementioned as a fact, but then, I suppose that would suit your purpose.

Quite a bit actually - it's just that I see through this Shinawatra criminal conspiracy that they call a government. Get back when you have something to add to the conversation.

BTW the old "why don't you leave" is a bit trite.

At least you didn't disappoint me. That's just the kind of reply I expected.

And as I expected you had nothing to add to the conversation. You should access the BP breaking news - anybody critical of this govt is part of a conspiracy to overthrow them.:D
