59 nabbed in den raid

BANGKOK: -- Police raided a gambling den in Bangkok Noi district yesterday and arrested 59 gamblers in a dramatic three-minute operation supported by a helicopter.

The 90-strong police force broke down the front door of the eight-storey Pinklao Condominium building and police teams cleared each floor up to the rooftop where the gamblers were playing baccarat.

All 59 gamblers were arrested after police blocked the exits to prevent their escape. They also seized Bt5,300 in cash and chips worth Bt150,000.

Two men who confessed to running the den were also arrested.

Thongthong Nilphum said he had originally rented the rooftop space to use as a warehouse, but started running the den in August.

He said that the gamblers were not regulars but were brought to the den by taxi drivers he knew personally.

Wow! I'm impressed! This must be the bust of the century. A 90 man team, plus helicopter support, and all for the vast sum of 5300 baht in cash. All be it that gambling is illegal in Thailand, but I ask you, all this fire power :o:D

They also seized Bt5,300 in cash and chips worth Bt150,000.

Hum... seems that they have like a hole in the casino bank. Where are the 150,000 - 5,300 THB ?

Someone must have been tipped...

:o

Or the gamblers bought their chips with... credit card.

Or the 90 gamblers were very small gamers and they bought 5,300 / 90 = the whoooping sum of 58 THB each.

What a country, what a country...

The 90-strong police force broke down the front door of the eight-storey Pinklao Condominium building...

I seem to remember the name of this building in another news report on illegal gambling a couple of months ago... :o

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Gotta love it. The news in LOS is soooo different from elsewhere in the world. Everyday brings a smile to your face... Must be sanook :o

I would reckon a few BIB are a bit wealthier today.

the whoooping sum of 58 THB each.

It would have been higher, but the police lost their shirts :o

£73?

Land of smiles indeed, that's hillarious.

It seems there are too many police in Bangkok with too little to do, why don't they ship a few thousand down to Yala so they can be equally ambitious in keeping law and order?
