Hi all,

I plan to stay and possibly work in Bangkok soon. But first before I get to that point, let me first explain my plan. I plan to go Bangkok by the end of November on the visa stamp (30days) with a one way ticket because currently I don't know what date I would be returning or continuing to stay. I have been offered a job in Thailand already but need to have a meeting with the manager while I am there on the 30day stamp. I may even get a tourist visa for 60days before I leave at the end of November, not sure yet. Either way once I met the manager for a meeting, I will then get a letter from him to apply for the NI B class Multiple Entry by leaving Thailand to go Penang or wherever is best to apply for the visa.

My question is, would I be able to enter Thailand on a one way ticket with the 30day stamp or tourist visa 60days of not currently knowing how long I am going to stay even though I am limited to the visa expiry. I don't remember customs checking for return tickets or I could be wrong. As I mention, this is my plan and would like to try this oportunity to work eventually for a big international company.

Any suggestions are very gratefull.

Many thanks,

Andy

Just found this: http://www.thaivisa.com/350.0.html

In theory, if you arrive and get issued with a visa on arrival then you must also have a valid ticket out of the country. In reality, as long as you look reasonably smart then this is hardly ever checked.

A bigger problem than Thai immigration is likely to be the airline. If they fly you in and you subsequently get rejected at immigration, it is down to the airline to take you back to where you came from. This responsibility means some airlines won't let you on board without a return ticket (Indonesian airline Garuda, for example, often does this), but most are more lax about checking. If the airline will take you without a return ticket you have a very good chance of getting in, as problems at Immigration in Thailand are highly unlikely.

'Open jaw' tickets (e.g. flying into Bangkok, but flying out of Singapore) should be okay, but it's worth checking with the airline first.

Entering Thailand overland from one of it's neighboring countries without a ticket out is almost certain to be okay. You're only likely to be checked if you give Immigration a reason to want to reject you e.g. dressing untidily, looking like you have no money etc...

Getting a tourist visa in advance provides exemption from the need for a return ticket, but the airlines may still require one even so.

The airline is not likely to be thrilled to carry a pax with no onward ticket or visa. Unless you are sure they will board you the 60 day visa would be highly advisable.

You are likely to require more than a letter to obtain a Non Immigrant B visa from Penang and the chance of a multi entry I suspect would be zero without actually having a work permit.

You are sure of this job offer and that it will provide a work permit?

If not then I will return home to the UK or look for another job in the time period I am there. I have just been reading online about the Tourist Visa is the best one to choose.

Tell me what exactly is required other than just a letter to apply for the NI B Class. I been reading that a letter, application, 2 photos, visa fee is all that is required. If its more than this, can you tell me because once I got this I know that I can get the employer to apply for the work permit. Am I right? Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks.

Ask them to mail the letter and company docs so you can apply in your home country before you go to Thailand. This way if you are accepted, you can start right away and won't have extra time and spending money flying out of the country again.

If they are serious about possibly hiring you. They will do this.

Also it will save you the hassle of going to Penang twice to obtain a multi entry visa ( if they don't employ 4 Thais per Wp or will pay you the minimum salary for your nationality for an extension of stay permit based on business)

You may be better off getting that job with the "a big international company" :o before locating to Thailand. Local hires will may be offered "local farang wages" which are a pittance compared to a typical "big international company" package.

As many have suggested in other threads, be sure to work for western managemant and not Thai management if you expect decent compensation.

When I was in Thailand in October I met the manager and made the offer to me but at the time I was leaving Thailand and had no time for a formal meeting to talk about business. However the manager is working for a magazine and is now setting up his own business which is currently not established. This is why he wants me to work with him. I am unsure at the present stage if or how I am going to get the required documents to apply for the NI B Class when the new company has not started yet, this is why I need to go now on the 30day or 60day tourist visa to have the meeting. Hope this makes sence to you guys. Anyway like I mentioned I don't know myself what exactly is going on at this current time. I will be contacting the manager shortly about this prospect....

Maybe just shell out a little more money fella and get a return ticket. Might seem OTT but, it will mean almost def no Q's asked upon entry and, with tourist visa gives you a couple of months proper bonafide stay to get it sorted. Either good news with the job or a top holiday...?

Hope it works out fella.
