Hi all.

I arrive in BKK at 7pm in just over a week's time and wish to travel on to Ubon.

I did have an AirAsia flight booked for the following morning (a 12 hour wait at the airport), but they kindly cancelled yesterday and put me on the later flight that same day, (meaning a 24 hour wait).

Rather than the long wait I've just cancelled this booking, and so now plan to take a bus, but am unsure of the times, and the stations.

Can someone tell me if there is a bus that leaves directly from the airport, or would I need to go to Morchit station (or is there another option?).

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

if you really would like to go Ubon on the same day you can pick a bus-service:

More informations about the Bus terminal also in this Forum:

An other way is to pick a VIP Van on the airport or talk with the Taxi and make a special rate to Ubon with them.

If you will pick a hotel, thai airways can take you on the next day 6:15 am and 3:35 pm to ubon also.

Cheers

Thanks for that info Thomas.

I've now booked with Thai Airways for the morning flight, it does mean a wait at the airport, but it saves a lot of hassle getting to the bus station, and then the long bus ride.

It's cost about 2400 baht, (just a little more than AirAsia's price) so I reckon not much more than the bus option by the time you add a taxi to get to Morchit..

Thanks again.

You plan to stay almost 12 hours at the airport? Wow! That is keen. Why not book a hotel at the airport or a cheaper option is one of the few airports located between 5 - 10 minutes away.

Actually, I didn't realise there were hotels so near, I had figured BKK was my only option.

I should do a search, but do you have any hotel names, or an area name that I can google?

I often arrive at Swampy from the UK after all the Ubon flight connections are gone. Even after a long flight I sometimes feel frisky (it's still early at 3am in my Europe-clocked head) so I'll stay on Sukhumvit and fly AA the next morning having had little sleep. The taxi both ways, the hotel and the ents add significantly to your transit costs

If tired (or feeling Cheap Charlie) I stay at Silver Garden hotel close to Swampy and go to sleep (though they advertise that they will arrange a refreshing post flight in-room 'massage' (which I haven't tried - honest guv!). One of several in the 800 bahtish range (the hotel) with a free minibus both ways. There's a useful thread about hotels around Swampy in the Suvarnabhum Airport section of TV forum if you want to explore the full range

Yesterday I arrived from some desert plane-shed in the Middle East at 7.30am - again all the early flights had gone and most of the buses/trains would have gone by the time I got to their departure point (and you can't book them without going to the relevant station). So I had booked the 11am Nok Air flight from Don Meuang - had time to Xpressrail/BTS/taxi it for 250 baht. Could have had a 30 minute foot massage at DM for 150 baht but I thought maybe I'd save up for a Silver Garden one next time instead!

[That late morning Nok flight would have been relatively expensive - 2,400 baht and I ummed and arrghed about it for days, until on Monday the price was knocked down to 1,600 baht. Result!]

Very helpful links, thank you.

I have now booked in for the night at the Silver Gold Garden Hotel. I booked through Agoda and it's cost a very reasonable £12.68 (just over 600 baht), which includes transfers to and from the airport.

The bus option was always going to be more difficult, so I can feel good knowing I will arrive in Ubon a lot fresher :)

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.
