without a declared SOE, the airlines can pretty much do whatever they wish.

Keep this in mind.

I am still in the USA and I called United-Continetal Airlines.

What looming disaster in Thailand? News to them.

Ostrich mode. The Tai Gov't has not declared any emergency, so there is no emergency, kow jai mai?

If I wish to change or delay my flight, I get hit with a $200 USD (6k baht) fee upfront.

Then I get hammered with any fare increases as well. Probably $500 USD (15k baht) to change a flight.

This happened during the Dec 2008 airport heist by the Yellow Shirts. "Acts of God" are not covered.

Read the fine print on your ticket.

The only way you will get any monies returned is if you PAID 3-5 times the going rate of Steerage Class.

This holds true for most, if not all USA air carriers.

A budget air ticket is called "Y-Class" and you are s%$# outta luck if the plane flight gets canceled.

No recourse, other than get in line......

Put it simply: if you purchase a low budget ticket on any airline, be prepared to eat any and all losses.

United doesn't have to do squat and can dump me off in SFO, Narita or wherever they feel like it.

Best of luck......

Nok Air and 12go have cancelled flights from Don Muang, 12go will operate out of Swampy. Others are still flying and as already stated there is no SOE (State of Emergency) in force.

UA/CO posted a BKK waiver on Oct. 21, 2011.

I would not expect Asian-based LCC's to proactively manage the situation other than to insure their aircraft are elsewhere if SBIA were to experience flooding.

Now that vented just let me tell you that Suvarnabhumi is still open and they expect to stay so.

There is 18 foot berm/flood barrier around the airport. If the flood water gets that high all of Bangkok will be underwater....and what the conditions are at the airport will be the least of the worries we will have here in Bangkok.

Right now that doesn't seem likely to happen...there is no flood water in or near the airport at this time (26 October 2011 15:00 local Bangkok time)...that's about 03:00 Eastern Standard Time... (i.e. New York).

IF, and I stress IF, a flood barrier is breached holding back the Chaopaya river litteraly millions of gallons of water will spill into Bangkok...and much of the city will be under water...or at least have 5 feet of water in the steets. The authorities here are doing the best they can to stop that. Right now a lot of people, including my family, are trying to stop it. Nobody can predict exactly what will happen.

Even God, or Buddha if you want, can't say for certain what will happen. The next two or 3 days should tell, one way or the other.

If even God can't say for sure...I doubt Continental Airlines can tell you either.

Call that an on-the-spot report from your on-the-scene reporter.

By the way there have been two or three official warnings to reidents of Bangkok to be prepared to evacuate at short notice and to store items that might be damaged by flood waters of possibly 1.5 meters...5 feet roughly...on the 2nd floors of their house.

Outside my house, right at this time, it's bone dry, and the sun is shining.

The OP was asking about budget airlines. Pretty funny that UA and CO are now considered "budget".

I have no idea what Air Asia's policy is. Orient Thai has moved all flights from Don Muang to Swampy. And Bangkok Airways is offering to change flights or issue refunds with no fees.

lomatopo...

thank you for the correction and the posting of UA/CO Bkk Flood Waiver

Funny, I had just gotten off the phone with a UA representative based in Mumbai, India.

He pretty much said "tough luck."

Yes, I agree UA;'s website is one of the best. I should have checked there first.

Am, still sticking to my plans.

Re: UA / CO as Budget airlines: all the majors have a set percentage of seats set at "Y Class"--el Cheapo or "kiin nee ouw" rates.

It doesn't get much cheaper than this. The seats are so cheap, one cannot even upgrade to Biz Class with points, extra miles, etc!

I know, strange yet true.

Am not worried about landing at Suvarnabhumi.

My main concern is getting marooned at Narita, or flight getting diverted to KL or Singapore and then what?

Fingers crossed.......for all those in flight, about to depart and those on the ground in Prathet Tai....

Was wondering where the OP is coming from and going to, does make a bit of a difference.

I just canceled a domestic flight on Thai, cost 500bt but can still use original ticket for 1 month
