PM may work with Abhisit to tackle flood

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra may soon invite Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva to work as a team for flood control in the capital, Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha said on Thursday.

"I expect the prime minister to work with Abhisit - this is better than each side going different way," he said following a meeting with Yingluck,

Prayuth said all sides should join together in order to overcome the worst flood in Bangkok.

The military would assist in every way to control the floodwater, he said, attaching a priority to rescue victims to be out of harm's way in case of overflowing.

Although it was impossible to evacuate all Bangkok residents, the rescue efforts would focus on residents living close to the dykes.

In areas where protection was still possible, the military would work with utmost efforts to divert the water flow, he said. Otherwise efforts would be on rescue and recovery, he added.

Yes inviting as many people as possible to help would be a bold and innovative strategy.

Hmm, don't you think she should wait a bit longer? /sarc

Maybe she has waited long enough for him to get back from the beach already :whistling:

Inviting people from the opposition has nothing to do with protecting the people, Yingluck has already shown she doesn't care about the people, just go and ask the people of the already flooded areas.

But this has everything to do with spreading the blame game that is bound to arise when the elite Bangkokians get flooded as well as the poor folk in the central belt.

No need to hurry, the city hasn't flooded yet, or least only 'minor' parts <_<

I'll believe it if it happens.

I don't think more than a minor percentage of the 10 - 12 million Bangkokians can be label 'elite'. The rest are just lower - middle class and lots of poor folk especially around the lowest levels in Bangkok which are already flooded or in danger of being any moment. :ermm:

A Grand Coalition?

A terrific concept that won't happen.

Bangkok is about to suffer enormously over the next few weeks and the pollies putting aside their differences and combining their experience would truly be "Miracle Thailand".

When the damage is already big enough, than she'll invite Abhisit so it looks like they did the mistakes together (share the blame).

How will she get ahold of Abhisit when he's jet-setting in the Maldives?

How will she get ahold of Abhisit when he's jet-setting in the Maldives?

He's been back since Sunday. Apparently they have telephones there to, just in case she was trying to get him on the weekend.

And i am sure they will hug eachother tight and hope for the best.

Who knows, maybe the romance novel of Thailand's Titanic is evolving.

How will she get ahold of Abhisit when he's jet-setting in the Maldives?

You mean, same as Yingluck when she went to Burma while her people were dying? Difference is that she IS the PM

The knee-jerk Thaksinophobes probably have no idea he spent last week in the Maldives. Not rumor, acknowledged by his spokesman. Some top secret flood meeting with the their president undoubtedly.

The Democrats said it was a long planned 3 day holiday. Was he missed?

Who, me ? - do you recognize how ineffective the comparison sounds, official state visit of newly elected PM in September vs long weekend holiday jaunt at the height of the crisis?

exactly what i was thining, spread the blame. if i were abhisit i would run like the wind, jatuporn has already blamed the flooding on the democrats.

If Khun Abhisit has any balls he will tell her to Flock off..... let her get out of this mess herself... her Ministers put her in it....

This is a brilliant move--truly Machiavellian. He's now damned if he does and damned if he doesn't...

Does put him in a tough spot - big question is who is putting him in it since the info came from Prayuth????

One just hopes that Abhisit remembers that old adage. "One needs a long spoon to sup with the devil."

I was sure that I would have this kind of answer....

Now tell me again, who is the PM in charge (or rather who is supposed to be in charge)?

It's all words, now. Utterly pointless.

What's the name of that song " Oh yes I remember. "Red Sails In The Sunset .whistling.gif

If called up, this disaster is bigger than politics, bigger than political parties; every person who can contribute should be doing so.

The offer has been on the table (AFAIK) for the government to get the army to do more; for weeks now for Abhisit to do more, if the PM takes up that offer, then that hopefully will help manage the crisis more effectively.

yes, maybe the red shirts may be trying to milk things, yes maybe Thaksin is branding our donations as his own aid, yes maybe there are people on both sides spreading false rumours about Democrats/Yingluck/others...however the bigger person here needs to set that aside and do the right thing, for the good of the people. On the ground, there are people of all factions working together to distribute aid, and turning a blind aid to the blatant politisation of that. People need food, water, medicine....now.

If we are stuck with FROCwits like Plodprasob and Karun and Nattawut, whose combined expertise in flood crisis management is probably equivalent to an overflowing bath and who to date have proved unable to cope, then any extra assistance to the PM is both needed and appreciated.

To those who say it is too late; that's what some were saying in late august, when we saw the government not doing much and the amount of flooding upcountry and need for aid. The fact is, right now the real number of people in trouble is probably 7m+. It's too late to stop the waters, it's not too late to help fix the upcoming humanitarian crisis.

It takes teamwork, effort, and planning. The more brainpower, the more cohesion, the more cooperation....the better.

The height of the (flooding) crisis was from 20th - 23rd of October 2011 ? Hardly started for some I would say.

Anyway this k. Abhisit who a few posters here had written off as "THE Thai people have spoken, THE Thai people don't want him", now is wanted? Please help, save us from this totally unorganised, twisting around PM and FROC? Please stay home next to the phone, the PM can call because she may want to work with you. 'obviously' there must be some humour in this, somewhere, under hardly more than a meter of water probably <_<
