Just returned fro a Thai restaurant in Rawai

2 plates of battered prawns good size serves 12 to a plate

4 main courses shared by 4 people plus a drink each

Cost 950 baht and the food was good

At the west end of the beach front road a narrow road carries on along the beach front

Go past the building where the fishermen repair there nets and its the first restaurant

on the beach front with excellent views

If you both care to look at pinned topics, you will find 'restaurants' among them.

And do you mean Palai? Been going there off and on for years if so. Bit hit and miss.

Actually if you are talking about the restaurant down past the zoo we went there with Old Croc and his lady

on your recomendation

It was Old Croc who found the restaurant i am talking about not me

This restaurant has the best view and the best food value for money of any i have been to in Phuket

And yes you are right its right on the beach front actually if you walk a metre from the front tables you are on the beach

It is a open air Thai Restaurant but so are most others along the beach and the staff are pleasant and nice but do not wear uniforms

The chain of 6 or so restaurants that you're talking about are collectively known as the 'Food Court'. As you're a long term Rawai resident, I'm amazed that you haven't been there before. That said, they very much cater for the local Thai market (hence the relatively low pricing and usually sitting on floor mats). Until a couple of years ago, we used to take our dogs down to that section of the beach for them to swim nearly every day, and we'd have a drink and snack whilst we were there. Whilst the view isn't unpleasant (looking directly out towards Koh Bon), it's certainly not amongst the better beachside locations in Phuket, particularly on the east coast. The sea and beach in that area is also full of litter and rubbish, broken glass etc, and the the restaurants in the Food Court make no collective effort to keep that area of beach clean (the reason we stopped going there - it was becoming dangerous for the dogs).

My reading of Thai script isn't so good, but the restaurant on the west end of rawai beach next to the or bor tor is Baan Had Rawai. I've been going there for years and funnily enough, I've heard they've changed cooks recently and is now very good whereas in the past it was average for Thai food in Rawai on the beach. Nice setting any time though.

I think that's the triangular shaped restaurant where (going west) the beach road has the slip road to Food Court on the left (i.e.it's a proper restaurant, car park in the apex of the triangle). Agree with your assessment about the previous average food. Haven't eaten there in maybe 3 years as, like many of it's ilk, proximity to the sea doesn't guarantee quality of what ends up on the table.

The restaurant i am talking about is the first one in a small group about 100 metres before the end of the road where the boat ramp is

The area was not dirty actually very clean for Thailand, there are lots of fishing boats anchored near it

That's exactly where I referred to on my original post, i.e. the Food Court. All of the 'huts' are owned by Rawai council, and rented out to Phuket born Thais only (that info from one of the Thai renters). Yes, there's a lot of longtails moored there, and a couple of years ago I'd considered putting my own boat there also. Decided against it as security is an issue as at low tide it dries out for a couple of hundred metres, and petty theft from boats is rife. Think you need to actually walk along that section of beach (say from the main road to the boat ramp) to see how dirty it is, though make sure you're wearing shoes because of the broken glass. The restaurants themselves are normally kept very clean.

Another quality post from Evanson (thanks, now goodbye) and no, they are not referring to Palai.

I believe another poster on this thread and I caught Job2Do down there about a year ago. Correct me if I am wrong but the road runs the beach side of Baan Haad Rawai and you continue on up. Sort of the beach front from the OrBorJor, no? Must say, have never eaten up there but will do so soon on the advice.

Those places opened some years ago (5-6 maybe) when they were evicted from the beach front. None of them were very happy with it since their location was not exactly an improvement.

Lately that end of Rawai beach has had an awfull smell of raw sewerage from the filthy dirty river and towards the beach front where the local vendors have the brand new drainage system already covered over with burlap sacks to block off the stink from the drains on Rawai Beach road....

There was no sewerage smell when we were there, the restaurant is on the small road

that runs between the govt offices and the beach at the western end of Rawai bay
