Anyone know if buses to Chiang Mai are still operating ?

I went to Morchit the other day(before the flood reach BKK) and have a tough time checking from counters to counters as they don't speak much English;

a) WIN tours counters are closed and according to the bus terminal information counter, WIN tour is not willing to take the longer way so they stopped operating now, can anyone verify ?

B) I went to the 999 bus counters and enquired for Nov 10, the counter that showed me the schedule can't speak English and another of their counter girl who speak English told me they don't sell advance tickets due to the flood.

c) Finally, I bought from another counter(not WIN or 999 governmant bus) and the printed tickets I are all written in Thai except for NCA(i believe is the bus company name) and a "GOL". There are many phone numbers printed behind but they cannot be reached or speak no English.

Anyone know if I stand any chance of having my money refunded ? Looks like I have to cancel my bus trip and go by air.

I am now out of Thailand. Any advice or phone number or who to contact is much appreciated.

Hello Healthcaretaker ~ Wow...that is a tough one! I can feel your pain as I travel out of Mochit quite often and as I don't read Thai (I speak quite a bit) I still struggle with all the counter names being in Thai and am usually one of the only foreigners in the whole place. So..when I read your question I went and talked to my boyfriend (he's Thai) and he thought about it pretty long...he said "hmmm, not sure...I think if he goes 3 - 4 hours early before the bus leaves I know he can for sure change the time or date of his ticket but i don't really think they'd give your money back". But then he thought longer and said but with the flood he thinks the chances are pretty high they may being giving refunds to people who cannot go especially with the backlog of other people trying to get out of here and the longer changed routes. Good luck!!! And sorry to say... I think this would be really really hard to take care of by phone....or impossible. My friend just walked in, I asked him and he laughed and said "mai dai" cannot! (do anything by telephone) ^_^

Problem is if I know BKK is really flooded badly, I need to change plan and buy flight tickets before too late. Then I will have no chance to find out from their counter. I guess if their bus trip is not cancelled, I am sure many people will need the seats. At least I can let others have them and not wasted.

I managed to trace their website www.nca.co.th but there is no english.

Can someone who knows thai visit their website and check how I can write to them(which page, column to click etc) ? Hopefully, there is a enquiry form to fill in. I will write in in English to try my luck.

Contrary to their practice just 2-3 years ago, NCA now does NOT accommodate English-speaking travelers by their website, email, counter-service, on-bus attendants, or phone support. They have chosen to focus on the Thai (bigger) market only. You're on your own when dealing with them. sad.gif
