I want to travel from Udon Thani to Vientiane only either for the day or 1 night stay over....... originally I was going to take the bus and get the laos visa at the friendship bridge but was told that if I travel by land it will affect my 30 day tourist visa and only leave me with visa of 5 days on return from laos so therefore I should travel by air. Is this the current correct information??

Second question - whats the best way to see angkor wat fly from bkk to siem reap ??

After you cross the border, If you fly back into Thailand you will be given 30 days, if you walk, drive, etc you will be given 15 days. If you need more time in country and are going to Vientiane, why not stop at the Thai consulate and request two tourist visa's.

why do you want to goto vientiane in the first place ?

most people go there to get a visa for thailand or tour through laos.

getting a thai tourist visa in vientiane doesn't take that long , you need to put the application in the morning and collect the next day after lunch,

if you can get a double entry visa for thailand you have many options for the future.

even if you get a double visa you don't have to use it straight away, you could enter thailand and get 15 days only then goto ankor wat then when coming back to thailand start the tourist visas.

ankor wat is worth a visit , bangkok air fly there or maybe can go via land from udon ?

you could maybe take bus there and fly back to thailand to get another 30 days,

or if you want to goto laos maybe fly from siem reap to luang prabang then get boat down to vientiane etc - quite expensive at 300 dollars ?
