Another "Is It Flooded" Question

Featured Replies

Sorry to ask this but does anyone know if the Khaosan/Phra Athit areas are under water. I have some friends arriving in a couple of days and we were going to stay around there, but not if there are Spanish Admirals bobbing around.

Many thanks.

Khao San is ok for now but Phra Athit floods at high tide. All along the river it floods at high tide and it spills out on to nearby roads and then drains away at low tide

Many thanks for this.

I can understand that the Phra Arthit road itself will get some water, but how about nearby hotels and businesses? I am planning to stay just a few doors up from New Siam Riverside (same block as Unicef and adjacent to Rambuttri Lane). Everything open?

I think everything in the area is open. Haven't been to Phra Athit itself but nearby some places the water was high enough to get in the first floor of buildings and places had built brick walls around their entrances to keep the water out. Here's some pics of Phra Athit flooding last week.

High tide isn't as high now as over the weekend so it should be a bit better

This was a pic of Na Phra Lan road outside the Grand Palace on 26/10/11, which is about a mile further downstream on the Jao Praya river. Seems that area is prone to spill over.

I heard Thaprachan Rd by Thammasat university was flooded as well.

Wow, based on the pics and vids it almost looks like no place is safe from at least a bit of water. It appears that now Ratchadamnoen has gotten some water at Mahakan Fort, that certainly wouldn't rule out Khao San which is straight down the street a couple blocks, unless there just isn't quite enough to make it there. I can only imagine that Phra Arthit Rd gets it bad and isn't safe. I may have to cancel my trip (am / was scheduled to make it there late Sunday night the 6th).
