Bangkok water officials make grisly find

The Nation

Part of a human leg was found floating at Bangkok's Bang Sue Water Pump Station yesterday morning.

Officials manning a garbage sluicescreen alerted Tao Poon police after finding torn camouflage pants that contained a decomposing human thigh.

A black Nokia cellphone minus the SIM card was recovered from the right pocket of the pants.

Suspecting that the victim died at least two months ago, police have sent the human remains for forensic examination.

City waterworks chief: Discovery of a body in Prapa Canal will not affect quality of water, investigation underway /TANN

Evidently the Japanese government advisers have already arrived

Crocodile ?

Doubt the crocodile would have removed the sim card.

Bodies deteriorate quickly in the water here. The body might have been that of a crime victim that was weighted down. After awhile a body turns to jelly under water and a strong water current is sufficient to pull a limb off. If an estimate of 2 months was given the flesh was ready to disintegrate in the recovery crews hands. After a week in the water , the skin slides off like a glove.

Yep crocodile for sure because if you beleive the Thai government they would say bangkok is a very safe place except for the crocs that have escaped in the flooding

When there are floods and the ground gets soggy and is under a meter or two of water ..... sometimes the bodies just pop out and float to the surface, especially if in a shallow grave.

Yes but normally when they put somebody 6 feet under they have the courtesy to remove the phone - unless otherwise stated in his will.

I doubt this was a normal burial somewhere with ripped camouflage pants and mobile phone (with no sim card) inside.

Perhaps the police were somehow implicated in the death and needed to destroy the potential evidence the simcard would provide...

Pure conjecture, but when someone steals a phone, the first thing they do is remove the SIM.

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority governor affirms that the quality of tap water is clean and safe to consume, after officials found a body in the Prapa Canal.

Officials rushed to resolve the color and smell problems in the tap water.

Metropolitan Waterworks Authority Governor Jareon Patsara said police officers have been working on removing the body that was found in the Prapa Canal.

The officials will raise the level of the earthen dyke around the canal, which will serve as a permanent barrier to prevent any future unexpected incidents.

The tap water was inspected and sanitized with chemicals before it reaches consumers.

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority is still working to solve the yellow color and smell problems of tap water.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority will be responsible in monitoring the electrical system for the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, and the leaked earthen dykes around the water source have been repaired.

At the Sumlae water station, the water level begun to recede, and a barrier will be raised there as well.

Who would want to go in and fish that out!? huh.gif

Perhaps the police were looking for clues as to identity?

Me too. That's why I said "shallow grave" .... and perhaps there will be more discoveries like this.

If the phone isn't completely corroded they may be able to discover the identity of the person to whom the leg belongs. If it had a sim card it would have been even easier. That's why they are interested in it.

Assuming the phone did in fact belong to the owner of 'the Leg' and the guy didnt pick up the phone 2nd hand at MBK.

that wouldn't necessarily make any difference if any calls were made from that phone by the victim. But of course if this was a result of 'foul play' the culprits could have planted a phone on the body to mislead any future investigation
