CAIRO (BNO NEWS) -- Eleven Hungarian tourists were killed and dozens more were injured when a bus overturned in the Egyptian coastal city of Hurghada, the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported on Monday.

The accident happened on Sunday evening when the bus flipped over as the driver was making a sharp turn while en route to Hurghada Airport. The tourists were supposed to board a plane back to Hungary at 9.30 p.m. local time.

According to authorities, eleven people were killed and 30 others were injured. Four tourists who were critically injured were reportedly transferred to the capital of Cairo via military airplanes as hospitals in Hurghada were overwhelmed following the accident.

Hurghada authorities are reportedly coordinating with Hungarian embassy officials for the victims' bodies to be repatriated to Hungary, the newspaper said.

Red Sea Governor Mahmoud Assem has ordered managers of the bus company to be summoned for questioning as an official investigation has been launched. Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf has reportedly sent his condolences to the Hungarian government.
